Cry to soothe
Do you let your baby cry a little to help them learn to soothe themselves to sleep?
Self soothing is a developmental thing and isn't something that is taught. We can, however, "help" them as long as they are developmentally showing signs of self soothing on their own. *Most* babies begin to have the ability to self soothe between 4-6 months, but it can take up to a year. Use your best judgment if your child is ready. With that being said, research has not proven CIO to be safe under the age of 6 months, with most studies focusing on 8-10 month olds.

My son is starting to show signs of self soothing, but we don't let him cry. We will let him "fuss it out" I guess you could say. We nurse, read books then lay him down awake. Most of the time, he just babbles himself to sleep. Sometimes he will fuss a little and that's when I really notice the self soothing. He'll fuss for a minute or two and then just start babbling. Other times, especially when he is overtired, he will cry when we lay him down. I will wait no longer than a minute to see if he starts to calm or if he gets more unsettled, and then I will shush/pat him in the crib until he settles and walk away. Sometimes, i have to do this several times, but my goal is to not pick him up. If this goes on too long I will pick him up and try to do the pick up/put down method which does eventually work. The latter is when he is over tired and fighting sleep. He sleeps 12 hrs with 1 wake/feed, still on demand EBF.
You think I would have learned from my oldest daughter who is two and refuses to sleep on her own but instead my other daughter cries and I let her sleep with us. I need to stop but like previous posters said it's hard to let your baby cry. But let me tell you. Four people in one bed is uncomfortable.
Hailey I'm sure your baby can learn. It just takes patience. I consulted a baby sleep training expert and she advised me to start the sleep training at night when he has the most drive to sleep. Once he has learned to fall asleep on his own at night you start the nap training. She advised me that you should put him to bed awake and let him cry until he falls asleep. She said in average a baby will cry for 45-60 minutes the first time and that time will drastically reduce over the next week. Luckily my son only cried 19 minutes the first night (I cried the whole time too). We went in the room to comfort him every 8 minutes. We would not pick him up. We just put our hand in his chest and quietly spoke to him. Now he falls asleep quickly with minimal crying. It is soooo hard to let your baby cry like that, but it really did work and I think it is important for him to learn to fall asleep on his own.
I do...Took him few nights and he learned how to go to sleep by himself..I just have the same ritual every night, nurse him, make sure he burped very well, put him down in his crib, me and his daddy telling him good night and we love him and then we turn the light off and we walk away, he doesn't cry anymore, I go check him in about 10 minutes and he's asleep already.he is three months and one week old and is been doing this sice 2.5 months old.. it's so much easier, he usually wakes up only one time a night to eat, I feed him and I put him back down awake and he goes to sleep again ?
Rant
My SO has been rude a lot ever since I've gotten pregnant...he said he doesn't care about my pregnancy, he doesn't even take one day off from work just ONE to come to at least one ultra sound appointment. I mean he's always making sure I'm fed, he lets use the heating pad, and even apologized to saying he doesn't care. He can mess with me all day but when I want to join and play around he gives me an attitude. He just makes me feel like s*** at times. He's a great fiancé don't get me wro...
I posted the day before yesterday about my friend.. & well....... her fiancé came over, AND she came alone 😐 we eat sit around and after awhile my husband takes him to the back & the next thing I know he’s coming in the house with a weird look on his face, asking her if there was something he should know, I instantly gets up just in case someone turns into a maniac....... well long story short he cried & told her how disloyal she is & how disappointed he was.. she’s crying asking me why would I ...
Preggies,
We've seen quite a few posts from moms who look like they are suffering from either prenatal and postpartum depression. This is nothing to be ashamed about and we must support women going through this. Below are numbers and a link to find counseling. Also. we are always here if you need someone to talk to.

According to The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), between 14-23% of women will struggle with some symptoms of depression during and after pregnancy. W...

Got to the hospital at 4 am to start my pitocin, well.. I was put on the drip at 430 am , and was 4cm dilated and 80 percent effaced, an hour later. The nurse came in to check me, hours later, and I was at 6 cm. I got the epidural at 6cm.. But it didn't work for me, no more than 20 minutes later, I couldn't take the pain, I was screaming and crying.. And felt everything.. most terrible pain ever, I called for my nurse to come in and she checked me again, said I was ready to deliver, babys head ...
I don't let my baby cry unless I'm busy and can't get to him right away. But that's just me, he's not ready to self-soothe. He usually falls asleep after his bottle though and I lay him down and he does fine.
