Stitches

If you give birth without an epidural and you tear, will the doctor numb the area before they stitch the area back up? This is just a weird fear of mine!

Yes I was numbed before stitches.

I had a home birth, no meds. Had to get an episiotomy. My midwife used a numbing spray and injected some anesthetic but I could still feel everything.

In comparison to the contractions and the pushing, it is more annoying than painful!

I just had my daughter on the 20th and the doctor did numb the area before she put the stitches in.

I tore terribly with our first. Honestly your somewhat numb there from the trauma and pushing that you can feel it but I wouldn't call it necessarily pain. It's more of just a pinch. No worries!

With my first I tore & yep they numb the area with a needle to do the stitches.

My second pregnancy I didn't tear!

(I went unmedicated with both)

They should. My two boys they did.

When I got to the hospital, I was already 9 cm dilated and was told that epidural or any other pain reliever was not an option. Soon after, I was told to start pushing. After 2.5 hours of excruciating pain, I was told that they will make a small cut, and the doc didn't use anything to numb me, but I didn't even feel anything. After delivery, they rubbed some numbing cream, but I felt every stitch. It wasn't that painful though, nothing seemed painful after experiencing natural delivery.

Yes they will numb you

Yes. Even if it is 1 stitch they will place some numbing gel on the area and pull the stitch through. You'll still feel it though. But after all you will have been through, it'll be nothing.

Yes!!

I think they put some topical numbing cream in that area for me, before I finally pushed my baby out. I remember the stitches hurting but at that point the post-labor high was kicking in and all I had to do was hold my doula's hand for a few seconds. Don't worry about that part, IMO. Once you reach that point, you're home free. ❤️

I had a home birth with my son and I tore.

I needed stitches and my MW gave me a shot to numb my vagina for stitching. (Not just one poke!) and it was excruciating!!!

Seriously the worst part of my entire labor.

They will give you a shot to numb you. I had small tears both times and found it uncomfortable-not really painful. More like okay everyone get out and leave me alone haha

Sometimes. With my first I got a shot of lidocaine for 3 stitches, and they didn't stitch me up until about an hour after birth and I could still feel it (uncomfortable). With my second I got one stitch and no lidocaine, they did it right away and I didn't feel it.

Following. Totally need the answer to this question.

Ladies who got stitches: Is it normal for the area where you got stitched up to sting once in a while? And how long does it take to fully heal?😫

2
mommymomo Peeing stung for a few weeks until it healed. My magic mix was lukewarm rinse bottle, Dermoplast
maria.madada @mommymomo, I fully agree - every bathroom visit is a 20min experience 👍🏼
ginz I had 3 stitches and took a couple weeks to fully heal. The peri-bottle was my BFF!

Natural Birth Moms‼️.

Do they put numbing cream or anything on you before you start to push? And after if they have to stitch you up?

boymomcpkd So is it safe to say that the most painful part are the contractions rather then the
fakoffyeh With my natural birth I didn't have any numbing and I didn't tear so no clue 😅
supermomsuperwife2019 I needed an episiotomy but didn't feel it due to the epidural and I also got stitches
