Scam call from "IRS"

I got a scary phone call this morning on my voicemail. It was a recorded voice saying that they were with the IRS I had 5 warrants out for my arrest due to improper tax filing something or other. I knew it wasn't true, but it was still unnerving to hear it. I called the number back and they said they were the IRS and asked for my name. I refused to give it to them and asked how they got my number. They immediately hung up.

I used to work for a law firm who helped people in trouble with the IRS and state.....man you wouldn’t believe how many people get scammed from these calls. It’s sad really !!

I feel like people should have a better radar as far as whats real and not. The IRS won’t make you pay western union, or gift cards lol. So sad. Revenue officers do make phone calls and house/business visits but there’s always a notice sent before hand letting you know you’ve been assigned an RO.

There’s also notices being sent out letting you know your wages are going to be garnished and your bank account levied. Those look legit but if you look at the bottom there’s an * saying not government affiliated and information was pulled from public records.

Little heads up if anyone gets notices and thinks it’s fake.

I got one of these call years ago before I ever had a job and when I called back they didn't even ask my name just asked my age and if I had a boyfriend, like wtf does that have to do with anything, you can't scam me so you resort to soliciting a minor, wish I could have taken legal action against them.

Never ever call them back. They'll know the number is live and kerp using it. They also sometimes have premium rate numbers so ringing them back and going to voicemail can cost hundreds. Best thing is to report, block and delete any messages.

Glad you blocked them if they try calling you from a different number tell them you already made a report & if they call again your contacting the police it should scare them off

I found it. Thanks, Ray!

If you have a cell phone, open the contact scroll to the bottom and there should be a block contact option. You can also do it from the phone company’s website. (I think)

They called again! I just reported the incident to the IRS and the Federal Trade Commission. Now I need to figure out how to block the number.

I’ve had one of these people call me. I blocked the number and reported it. I also made a couple of comments about the number on the ‘who called me’ type of websites so others can be aware of the scam.

They just called again. I found the number to report it. I'll do it as soon as we're done with school for the day. It makes me so angry!

You can report it to the IRS & call your local dispatch center & let them know you had received a call & you want to give them their number. & The other day my husband got an $8,000 check in the mail saying he had won the lotto that with that money he had to pay taxes & shipping for the $491,000 check he was supposed to receive in the mail ? I just laughed & put it away we new it was a total scam I'll try to post it later these scammers are trying to get smarter & smarter with their techniques.

I heard on the radio this morning... there was an "IRS agent" who called a lady and said she owed $3800 in back taxes. The "agent" had her pay with Best Buy gift cards! She complied and supplied him the gift card info over the phone!! ???

You can actually call the IRS @yaya and report the call and number they called you on, even if it's a scam number. I believe if you go online to their website there is also an area to report it at.

I wonder if there's a way to report it? I doubt it will do any good, but I'll look into it.

Yeah they suckered my DH. He even called them back ??‍♀️

I was told him “DH, the irs puts everything in writing and won’t be calling you, let alone threatening to have you arrested on a voicemail”. No to mention it was a number from Wisconsin ?

Woah, that would've freaked me out too.

It's awful people fall for these scams.

It's awful. A friend of my granny's got scammed thousands of dollars because of this. Took a whole lot out of her savings.

It's very sad especially elderly who may not know to question it
