I hit a car ?
It was in a tiny parking lot and I scraped their back bumper as I was pulling out. It happened yesterday and I still feel terrible about it. I've been driving for 20 years and this is the first time I've ever done anything like this.
I think we have the same insurance. I'm hoping that makes the process easier.
Yaya have you talked to your insurance or just her insurance? If you haven't spoke to your insurance I would. Also, one thing I've learned is to always call the police in any accident so there's an official report even though you are totally taking full responsibility it's to protect yourself from her making false claims. I wouldn't talk to her insurance and I would let your insurance represent you. They should settle the claim and let you know what you owe out of pocket. Also, your premium may go up, but hopefully not.
Update:
She did report it to insurance. I talked to insurance after it was reported and let them know I was at fault. I asked lots of questions but they didn't have any answers. Does anyone know what happens now?
I am pretty newly licensed, got mine last November. A few months into driving I was pulling out of a parking lot space and my baby shrieked and I got startled and ended up hitting the car behind me. I didn't even have my foot on the accelerator just in reverse with my foot off the brake. I freaked out. I parked, went inside the store we were in front of and asked them to call for the owner of the car. The lady came out looked at me and my meltdown baby, looked at her car, gave me a hug and told me to go home. I was in tears when she was so sweet about it.
I hit a fence yesterday at my work. The same fence that got dropped on my car and dented and scratched the back. They where installing a new one and just let it fall on my car. I was backing up and didn't even feel myself hit it. Small scratch nothing insurance worthy. Lol.
Thank you all for sharing your stories with me. For the ones that have been hit, I'm really sorry. I feel better knowing I'm not the only one that's done this. I still have anxiety, but it's better than it was this morning. I knew I could count on you for a pep talk! Love and hugs! ❤
That lady was rude about the situation, like you weren't waiting on the owners to return. I'm sorry. These things happen! A lady swung her door right into my car while I was waiting out my sleeping baby's nap and just walked away after glaring at me! Like I did anything! I saw her later and calmly but rudely told her off. YOU did the right thing and exchanged information. Your karma is clear!
At least you were a decent person and offered to pay and were gonna leave your information. A month after I bought my brand new car someone hit it in the parking lot at work. I was one of the last people to leave and they didn’t leave any information. My bumper was dented and scratched i was so upset. It’s still there since my insurance wouldn’t cover it because “it costs less than my deductible to repair” and I can’t afford to have it fixed. I’m still very upset about it especially since I work at a school and I know it was one of my coworkers. Someone also stole my cookies out of my mailbox that week and I’ve never really gotten over those two situations. Like congrats jerks y’all hit a pregnant lady’s car and stole her cookies. Who steals a pregnant ladies cookies?!
The parking situation at DD's school is horrendous. A few weeks ago there were cars every way so no chance of moving forward at all... the car behind me back out onto the road so I was like ok I'll do the same. I look, nothings coming so I start to back out I'm looking to right where I'm backing and a car comes from the left and I bump it... ?? I jump out thinking the worst, he gets out and looks pissed. But there was no damage to either car so that was that. I apologized profusely, it's the first time I even got anything, I felt so bad.
Omg @Cheetos! I rear ended a big suv in my teeny car when I was like 20 ish. My car was totaled windshield shattered air bags went off and everything. The kid was young and his mom showed up. I was bawling and so upset... she hugged me while I cried and apologized over and over again. His car was fine lol
To be honest you must be a pretty careful driver for never having hit or bumped a another car before. Don't feel bad. It happens.
Iv miss judged the parking space completely & scrapped the whole side of the car next to me. It was a brand new plate. I left a note but they never called. It must have cost so much as it was 2x door panels & the back side panel. I still feel bad now.
Your bump sounds very minor it's not like they are left without a car over Christmas, try not too stress about I'm sure they are just very happy you waited to speak to them as lots of people don't.
You freak out for like a week and then you're good to go. Don't sweat it. Paint is nothing. I got in my first accident 3 days after my birthday, I was traumatized because I've never been in one before. I'm cool with it now, everyone was ok, that's really all that matters.
Should habe flipped off the smoker.
I got in my first accident this summer. I was backing up in an empty parking lot. No joke, it was empty. And I backed into a truck that came out of literally nowhere. The lady started yelling at me and I started crying because I was so upset. We exchanged insurance information and she started laughing and gave me a hug trying to make me feel better. My brother and husband teased me for weeks saying I'm the only person they know who can hit someone's car and get a hug because the person felt bad for me for hitting THEIR car.
I hit a parked car too! Lol. It was the first time my dad had let me drive to school(I was 17) and we just had to park on the street. I backed up too much and hit the car behind me. I finished parking and quickly checked to see if there was any scratches and it was good so I just went along with my day lol
My parked car was hit in a parking lot a few months ago by an insurance agent? we live in Texas where everyone has American cars so he was shocked when we told him how much repairs were gonna be for our Audi. But it wasn’t a little tap he cracked our entire bumper and broke one of our tail lights. I’m sure if it is just scratched paint it’s no biggie! I wouldn’t be too upset about it.
It could have been worse, that's true. I'm very glad it wasn't. As soon as I heard the sound I pictured all kinds of awfulness. I was scared to look at it at first. Especially with that other lady staring me down. She was worse than the car owners!
A few years ago, my husband had wrecked his truck and I was taking him to work at 4AM ? I was at a stoplight behind an SUV, they got off there breaks and I thought the light had changed because they just rolled 20+ feet forward, I let off my breaks and my husband said something to me and I turned and looked at him. Apparently at the exact time the person in front of me slammed on their breaks and I rolled into the back of them ??♀️ I was going literally 5MPH, it barely caused any damage to their SUV but my hood was completely destroyed and so was my entire front end. The passenger got out and was yelling and screaming at me, I already felt terrible I certainly didn't need her making it worse. It caused like $10K of damage to my car and I literally scratched their paint ? I had such bad anxiety while driving for months after.
At the time I was going to college. I was late for class and was rushing to find a parking spot. When I found one I was going too fast and swiped the bumper of a car when I was pulling in. I grabbed a piece of paper wrote down my name and number and what had happened. I went to class and when it was over with the person had not arrived to their car yet. Knowing that someone can leave their car parked all day I decided to leave. Later the night the owner called me. I was at work so my phone was off and for some reason it never showed me if someone called. The owner left me a message with her first name and gave a story about having been hit a few weeks before but no other information. Since I didn't have her phone number I had to wait for her to call me. She never did so nothing ever came of it. Luckily it was just paint on our cars and no damage.
When I first got my truck, I wasn't used to how long the front end is, and I went to pull into a parking space in a small parking lot and dragged my brush guard down the whole side of someone's car. I dented it and scratched it the whole way. ?
At least yours wasn't that bad!
Aww. Im sorry. It happens. In 2011 i clipped someones bumper in a roundabout. It was midnight and i have no idea how i didnt see them. They only had a small dent/crack. My headlight came out. Hood moved over and bumper ripped off..... lol it could always be a lot worse. Dont beat yourself up. This is the reason we pay the insurance the big bucks every month.
Yeah I hit a parked truck and the parking lot was big! I just reversed too far and too fast lol. Literally nothing happened to the truck but my car light broke! I left my info on the truck and left. They probably were like wth because there was no damage at all on the truck! It happens. Just move on and pay the little amount it’ll take to buff out their bumper lol
I was teaching my little brother to drive stick shift, & we were in a busy parking lot (stupid I know lol) he backed straight into a parked van and pretty much totalled their front end/passenger side, and gave my car a little dent I felt sooo horrible I can’t even imagine how he felt. After that he wouldn’t drive for a long time hahaha and turns out that van didn’t have insurance which is illegal so nothing ever came of it ??♀️
