calling all history buffs or my international friends

I am pretty fascinated by the British monarchy, but have never actually read anything really factual about them.

Look up Alison weir or Antonia Fraser on amazon - their books are written really well (read like novels, where the people seem real) and are purely factual (be careful - Alison Weir also writes fiction novels). Try Eleanor of Aquitaine by Alison Weir or Mary Queen of Scots by Antonia Fraser. If you like tudors - try the 6 wives of Henry viii by either one or children of England or Elizabeth the queen by Alison Weir

I've read quite a bit of Philippa Gregory. She write realistic historical fiction. Her books are about events that happened quite a while ago if that's what you're looking for.
