I hate these posts as I feel everyone thinks there a health professional with the appropriate degree to inform ppl of the appropriate action ? at the end of the day there is a reason to why they conduct that test regardless of YOU thinking your healthy or not!

No because its not fool proof or the only way to know your bg levels

I think it's selfish not to get it. I have no family history of diabetes and didn't have it with my first pregnancy but I have it with this pregnancy. I was for sure I wouldn't have it because I do my best to eat healthy and still ended up having it. They don't have the test for no reason. It really bugs me when people think they know more than doctors, why go to one if you're not going to at least listen to them?

I think it is selfish to not take it. Why sacrifice the health of your baby for your own selfish reasons? The test may be an inconvenience but kids are sometimes inconvenient. We will all experience never ending inconveniences for the next 18 or more years. Besides, how inconvenient would it be if something happen to the child that could have been prevented, all from not taking a simple little test?

There are alternatives to the test if the sugar drink is something you don't want to do.

I didn't drink soft drinks or eat junk before I was diagnosed. I did not have GD during my previous pregnancy nor did I personally ever have any sort of issue with my health. I actually lost 30lbs after my first child was born.

I did have a family history though. I switched to a low-carb diet and my numbers are perfect. No beans, rice, potatoes, bread, and cautious with my fruit.

I think it is important to at least do an alternative to the test because there is no way to predict that you won't have it. It is caused by the placenta, not always the fault of the mother. I was eating healthfully before, just had to make some changes from the normal diet. No biggie.

I do it. It's really not a big deal for me or something to think twice about.

That test is so harsh on me. I won't ever skip one but I don't think it's selfish if someone does. Maybe dumb but not selfish.

I never thought I would get GD, nobody in my family had it n I've always eaten healthy. Even if only "3%" ppl get it I still didn't want to risk it for the baby's sake.

1st pregnancy I didn't get it n this pregnancy I did. You never know.

Thoose test's are so dumb I have diabetes and I passed lol how I would never now but I have my own sugar free carb counting diet always have

I never really thought about the alternatives to it. And I do agree with you @Glen. I don't think my doctor would have given me an alternative if I asked for it.

I think its vapid to obsess about the test, post pictures of it, debate with non drs about whether or not its needed, and claim its full of toxic ingredients.

Brianna, after throwing up that many times, the fact that your dr didn't think of or offer you an alternative method worries me. I don't know how throwing up that many times over a test that can be don't other ways could be seen as "ok" as long as you get the negative result which you could've gotten otherwise without putting you and your baby through that much stress.

I think not taking it is selfish. Even if your age group has a small percentage of getting it, you might be that percentage. It took me 4 times to do the 3 hour one because I kept throwing up. Was it inconvenient? Yes but I would do it as many time to protect my baby. If I hadn't of been able to keep it down the last time my OB would have just classified me with GD just in case

I cant say its selfish, because everybody has their own beliefs about these things. However, if you dont want to do it because of the drink, then maybe ask your dr for an alternative.

I did mine, just to be on the safe side. However, I dont understand why you have to fast for 12 hours before doing it.

My dr said I didnt have to, and I ate like I normally do and passed.

It's not selfish to me. What's selfish is starving yourself for 12 hours and dehydrating yourself just so you can flood your body with sugar which just can't be good for you or the baby, and then trying not to pass out afterwards. There are other ways to monitor your glucose levels than doing that extreme test.

This is a ridiculous question. The amount of additives, sugar and artificial colors in the glucose drinks are ridiculous. Why anyone would want to expose their fetuses to this huge amount if sugar fasting is unfathomable to me. My midwife gave me the alternative to check my fasting and postprandial blood sugars for two weeks, which gave a broader picture of my health anyway.

Well it's not routinely offered in the uk, they try to avoid having people do it. I've just had to because my mum was recently diagnosed with diabetes. If you have no family link to it or other risk factors they won't do it. I don't think it's selfish not to

No, I don't think it's selfish.

I didn't do it, it wasn't for financially reasons because I live in Canada and all medical is free... I didn't do it because I don't believe in it, I did my research and only about 3 percent of women in my age etc group would have it, I didn't think that drinking a bottle of pure sugar was healthy for me or my baby, if I didn't have prenatal diabetes before that, then the drink could cause it alone... that's extremely unhealthy and I didn't want to put that crap into my body or my baby's for a 3% chance I could have it...

I talked to my midwife about it and we talked over the pros and cons of the test , and if she had any concerns that would cause her to think that I may have it, and she didn't have any concerns, and was fine with my decision, if the odds were higher in the 20% range I'd be more open to it, 40% I'd be getting the test done but 3% isn't worth the damage it could do...

It's not selfish to be cautious over something that has such a extremely minuscule percentage, I just asked my midwife to monitor me closely and if she had any concerns I'd go take the test..

And she also gave me preventive measures that I could do as well.

I only have two prenatal appointments(on purpose) and that's one thing I have done. But i don't think it's selfish. My family has a history of gd.
