Your baby is most likely too young for a routine. It's definitely hard and exhausting but you just need to follow her cues right now as far as feeding and sleeping goes. It does sound like there is some gas involved. Have you tried pumping her legs and rubbing her belly? I have heard great things about the Windi for relieving gas in babies if you haven't tried it yet!

I got a book from my SIL called 'the baby whisperer solves all your problems' and it covers sleep. I have 3 SILs and 2 uses this book. The two that used it have great sleepers (4 kids all together) and the one that didn't use the book still has problems with her 8'year old. Maybe something worth looking in too.

My aunt is an ob rn, she taught me to put him to bed later st night when we would want to get to sleep. I started our evening routine early, but I won't do books until around 10:30-11. I'm also trying to keep him up during the day when I can. @ May- this is work, but we were made for it!

Kamila went through the same for about two nights I really thought it was colics she wouldn't cry just fuzz and squirm so I got a heating pad placed it on her belly and she's been good ever since (they sell them at Walmart in the baby section) whatever it is I hope she gets better poor baby ???

Here is a article for bedtime routine. I didn't start one for awhile with my son. I just followed his cues but maybe I should have because he was a awful sleeper!

What time should "bedtime" be for a newborn?? Shes been napping since 645pm. Its 815pm now. Next time she wakes up, we are gonna do a "bedtime routine" and hoping shes down for the night by 11pm.

We tried the putting him down 15 minutes before his fussy time and turned up the bedroom TV and so far so good. Sending sleepy dust to all my favorite mommas! ☄☄

I did the routine- I added hair brushing to it and he knocked out before I could read to him ? I hope we all have good nights tonight!

To me the fussing and leg kicking sounds more like gas. My son and now my 1 week old daughter both went through this were they are "working something out" whether it be poop or gas and it causes a lot of fussiness but not crying. I lay her on my tummy, rub her tummy or do like bicycle leg exercises and that helps. When she is older we will use gripe water & gas drops they worked miracles with our son.

My son did the same thing too! ? Is it possible she is going through a growth spurt? I know whenever my son was his sleep was even worse. I swear he only slept every 1 1/2 to 2 hours non stop. I was nursing so as soon as he fell asleep and I put him back down he was waking up and it was honestly miserable. I never figured out why and I have never heard of "the witching hour" as a FTM I thought it was normal!

At my support group there's one extremely fussy baby- his mom uses a hot water bottle under baby's belly. Supposedly that helps.

Look into the 4 S's. Swaddle, sway, sush & suck. I think it helps them tone out all the over stimulation of the day.

May- I'm having a hard time too. These past two nights have been so rough. He just screams when we change him and screams unless I'm nursing or bottle feeding. I honestly fear tonight bc I have to let my DH get some sleep for work. I'm going to try a bit more of a routine- baby massage w calming lotion 3-4 books and family cuddles. Of course- he's fine during the day. It's just so startling and jarring for us ftms to get woken up over n over again. He's wanting to eat every hour at night. Good luck for you guys tonight. Yea I agree with the day and nights confusion. I'm trying right now to "teach" that. I only put her in her rock n play at night so she knows it's bed. I also just let her "b*tch" (one cry out then stops) and just rock the sleeper a couple of times when I know she was just fed, to let her know I don't just pick her up immediately at night...I also feed formula to though so I know they tend to stay fuller a little longer. Just trying to teach a routine? I also open all the blinds and have plenty of lights on during the day.

Yup, definitely sounds like witching hour. That's good though cause colic is no fun! As long as all her needs are met it means you are doing a great job so just keep calm and keep doing what youre doing and know that what you described sounds like perfectly normal babyness to me. I dont think its colic. She doesnt really cry, its just fussing, and leg kicking. Plus this isnt typical behavior from her. I dunno if we did something different these past few nights, or what. But its very discouraging to not know why your baby is upset. I do however think she doesnt know her days and nights yet...

My first used to scream bloody murder from 3-7am for a few weeks. Nothing would comfort her. I honestly just remained calm, breathed and laid her on my chest while I sat on the couch. They call it purple crying or witching hour. No real solution just stay calm and know it'll get better.

My son (1 week 4 days) does the same thing around the same time (my family calls it a "witching hour"). More than likely it's tummy issues mixed with a sleep/wake cycle that hasn't developed yet. My first son had GERD and he would not sleep unless he was in his rocker or swing, anywhere his head was slightly elevated. Last night we put the little one in the rocker and he slept much better. I have other tips and tricks from my first son (he was SUPER fussy/colic) if the rocker/ swing doesn't work. Newbornhood is a tough time as my husband is finding out.. this is his first as well. She could be colic. Call her pediatrician. You can get gas relief natural tabs. Also, have you tried putting her in a rocker like a mamaroo? That may keep her asleep. I bet she has tummy issues though. Ugh. Newborns can be hard.
