HOW DO YOU....
Mentally prepare yourself for a scheduled c-section?!! Trying NOT to freak out about it. FTM and I'm just trying to prepare myself.
I'm having my 3rd c-section on Friday. It's really not that bad. My first was easy breezy and my second was an emergency after failed VBAC. That one was rough because my son was in distress and had to rush to get him out. The first was planned and it went great. I've never needed more than Motrin for the pain. I was up and moving within a few hours of delivery once I got the feeling back in my legs. I went up and down stairs when I got home just fine. I went back to work after two weeks with my first and 3 weeks with my second. I wouldn't recommend anyone doing that though since you really need time to heal but I was self-employed at the time and worked as little or as much as I liked. Every person is different and we all heal differently. I was terrified of my first poop due to all the horror stories I'd heard but mine wasn't painful at all. Don't freak yourself out. You'll be fine. Just listen to your body and rest as much as you can and enjoy being waited on by everyone who will take pity on you for having surgery :-)
It's honestly not a bad experience, especially since yours is planned and not an emergency. Your hubs will be with you the whole time, except for when you go into the operating room and they do the spinal (but it only takes a minute and only feels like a pinch). The key is just trying to stay calm even though it can be a little scary or overwhelming. Having a good group of doctors helps too. Just trust what they are doing and relax. From the time my doctor made the incision until the baby arrived was literally 4 minutes. Then you just have to wait until doctor finishes stitching you up. I promise, It's not a bad experience. The recovery is hell the first few days so just prepare yourself for That!
Focus on the good. I know that sounds cheesy but that's what I always do. After I had my daughter (vaginally) I had a lot of tearing and stitches down there, stitches got ripped out and my ex wasn't exactly helpful with anything. This time I'm having a c-section and I know it's still going to be painful but the recovery time should still be shorter than what I went through before. My husband now is very helpful and is always concerned about the baby and I. Even if something goes wrong but I have a healthy baby that's all that matters to me, our baby is my priority and I'm going to just be focusing on him.
If it makes you feel better, I am actually choosing a Cesarean this round. My daughter was emergency, breech, premature, Cesarean and overall kind of a disaster. I spoke to my doctor about both a VBAC and an elective Cesarean. After hearing her thoughts on both, I decided a planned Cesarean would be best for my family and our health. Mind you, she would have let me do whatever I chose. I agree on researching a gentle Cesarean. To me it sounds like what my doctor tries to do for all planned ones. Cesarean recovery is kind of a bummer (mine was rough but not horrible by any means), but vaginal can be pretty rough too. Just remember the end goal: healthy baby and healthy Mama.
@2cizzz how long did the pain last? Do you still have it? As far as recovery.
I had my first c section two weeks ago and I was not at at mentally prepared. There's no pain involved during the actual act, just a lot of weird sensations. Afterwards getting used to standing with staples in you after being bedridden for 12 hours is pretty rough. First time I went to pee was hard but each time got easier. My incision is barely noticeable. Looking back but wasn't too bad, just don't think about it too much!
I just asked for people to talk to me and distract me. I had my husband in my face talking to me and the anesthesiologist talking to me too. If I was scared I said I was scared if I felt something weird I said it out loud. They gave me some meds for anxiety which I think really helped. I'm guessing it made me a little groggy afterwards but I remember everything about my baby and when she came out. I was just sleepy during recovery which the baby wasn't there for that anyway. I did have random sharp pain in my shoulder which was so strange but they explained it was trapped air. I'm scheduled for my second and I'm nervous but excited to meet my baby.
My husband was kept out of the room while I got my spinal and set-up on the table. Once that was done they had him come in and hold my hand before it started. Once he was in the room with me I felt a lot more at ease. Scheduled is so much better, I remember every moment of meeting my daughter and I held her right away.
To me it is so much harder to walk into a csection bc you have to let go of control and trust others . My first 2 were sections, last a vbac and hoping for a vbac but still working on mentally preparing for a csection, so I am ready. I bring a picture that makes me happy to focus on. Also many techniques for breathing u use in a vag birth work in a csection. (Focus on breathing, in 4 counts out for 8 like in hypnobirthing) I also just focus on looking at my husband once he gets in the room. I hate getting the epidural and set up without him there, I wish they would change that! Goodluck, you can do it! Focus on positive thoughts!
@hoggy no my Dr doesnt want to schedule one yet. He wants to give it another week. But next appt is 38 weeks, and if she still breech it'll be scheduled then. I'm just trying to get used to the idea just in case.
I think it's better than an unplanned or unscheduled bc you labor for days and are exhausted and starving then they crash you and you have surgery. A planned, you know what's coming (for those of use who have had them before). I'm much less stressed for the unknown this time but I understand if it's your first it can be stressful ❤️ it's very safe. I have had many resections due to my Crohn's disease using my c section scar. Those were longer, more intensive and complicated than a baby extraction. I heal quickly and hardly take any pain meds. Perhaps bc I have been through so many, but ask for a binder and take it easy. It takes longer than I imagined but this time I'm getting pictures of my babies birth. Just like everyone else does. It's beautiful. Try not to stress. My friend let stress take over and her body didn't heal well, she can't remember much about meeting her baby, ect. She wished she didn't. She is having her second today and says she feels much better about it planned this time around
I don't think there's a way to not be scared, those first few minutes during the prep are incredibly scary. But know that it's temporary and you will make it past the fear. The medical team will be great at easing your worries, it will be over so quick and you'll be holding that new baby and nothing else will matter.
I really don't know how I'm gonna be able to lay there, KNOWING I'm being cut open ???? really scares me!!
Just try hard to think positive thoughts. Don't pressure yourself thinking of the procedure just think that you're gonna hold your baby finally! The best way to prepare mentally is to stay positive. You will need some time to recover but the hospital will take great care of You! Just stay positive mama and think of the baby :)
