Breast pump covered by insurance

With my insurance I couldn't get one till after baby was born and it took forever to get like a month I had united health care and Medicaid

I will be ordering the Medela Pump in Style. I'm pretty sure my insurance covers either that one or the Ameda. I've heard PIS is better.

You may want to ask your doctor for a prescription for a hospital grade pump if you want to try and ep. I also got a prescription from the doctor on call the day I gave birth and my mom went and picked it up.

Another option if needed is up can rent one from the hospital until you get yours.

My insurance didn't allow me to have one until the baby was born. The company I went through overnighted it to me so I had it within 2 days of baby being born. Can you just breastfeed until your pump gets here?

Hi! Lactation consultants at the hospital set me up with the hospital pump while there, and the same day that my baby was born, they ordered my pump for me through my insurance company. I received my pump the next day while at the hospital. You should call the birthing ward at the hospital you plan to deliver and ask to speak with lactation specialists to see if they handle it the same way. Im in Massachusetts.

My drs office had the paper to fill out and they were able to submit in for me. After talking with the company I recieved it the very next day. So don't stress.

Side note: which one are you getting. I have the medela and it's horrible. Everyone keeps telling me the spectra is so much better. I'm so upset that I didn't get the spectra. I can't get a letdown with my medela

Did you try the wic they give you one no renting. Its after baby is born i think but its as soon as you go in. I honestly didnt decide to brest feed till after i had him do to him not wanting formula but as soon as i said i was going to wic was on it... Give it a shot.

I have UHC too and they said you can order it only within 30 days of due date. Most are mail order, one of them you can order it and then pick it up at Target same day.

It comes in the mail surprisingly quick! It will take some days for your milk to come in. In the mean time you could just breastfeed.

You can buy one for cheap, they have different brands out there, or rent one from babies r us, a medical grade one. There's also hand pump which is good for on the go and is better than nothing. Do not wait for the insurance to send the pump. You need to establish your milk supplies within the first 10 days or it would be harder to maintain/increase it as your body would think you don't need it if you don't drain your milk often.

Ask your Dr to make prescription for the breast pump, that's what the insurance wants.

There's a third party company that helped facilitate me getting the pump for free. You can try them, www.pumpingessentials.com. Give them a call and they might be able to help you.

Once my Dr wrote the prescription, I contacted that company and they handled my insurance, got my pump within a week and I'm only 28 weeks.

At the hospital when u have baby they can loan u a pump most of the time. Mine did after I had my daughter then my pump can in the mail 4 days after birth

Ok ladies, thanks for the tips!! I ordered it just now through Edgepark. It did say they can't process my order til 30 days before due date...so that doesn't mean I'll receive it by my due date...but oh well.

I rented from hospital for several weeks until my pump was received thru insurance.

I delivered my daughter super early so little different situation but the hospital let me rent one until baby leaves nicu. Id ask the hospital where your delivering if they have any options...

I have UHC too, but our plans could be different. When I called my insurance company, they gave me like 5 or 6 vendors to call. Maybe if there are multiple vendors in network, maybe each company has a different policy. I ordered mine through edgepark (I think) and they said I had to wait until 30 days before my due date to order. But maybe each vendor has their own set of rules. Try to reach out to other in-network vendors other than McKesson and see if they can get it to you sooner!

This happened to me! I was so stressed out. When I called the pump company and insurance that's exactly what they kept saying & I would tell them it was dumb that I'd have to wait some time without a pump.

I ended up going to the pump company website and ordered it online. I didn't talk to humans, just did it online and I got it the following week no questions asked. I had it when my baby came.

Also, the hospital gave me a manual one. It was handy because my baby was preemie & I hadn't read the instructions on the medela one so I pumped in a panic because my baby couldn't latch at the time.

Tip on exclusive pumping that worked for me. Husband wanted to only bottle feed breasmilk. For me, turned out only pumping didn't quite get my supply up. I wanted to freeze to give to whomever watches my baby when I get back to work and bottle feed baby.

I bought fenugreek supplements & I breastfeed at least once a day to kick start the milk production. I also pump after every time she is bottle fed to keep up the production. Now that she's almost 7 weeks we give her formula at night so she sleeps longer but I still pump in the wee hours of the night, otherwise you start drying up.

I had to wait until after my baby was born too. It usually only takes a few days to get it shipped. Just call as soon as you can after you deliver. Otherwise the hospital may be able to rent one to you. Or you could maybe buy a cheap hand pump for the few days. Your milk doesn't usually come in for a few days anyways. Just the colostrum.

United HealthCare Community Plan. I had a feeling they'd make me wait til after baby was born. Pppfft. It's upsetting. I'm not sure if I can purchase it and then be reimbursed. The only option I had to purchase anything, was an upgraded model. I may have to look into buying a cheapie just to get me by.

I don't think it matters who I go through...the email I got said, "your insurance company wants us to wait to ship it out" or something like that. I went through McKesson as directed by my dr office.

Try going through edge park. That's how I got mine I'm not due till February 25th and I jus got my breast pump Friday. I have state insurance. It was completely free. They just ask for your policy number and doctors info and call them for a prescription and send you the pump you want

Can you purchase it ahead of time and be reimbursed for it after birth? That's what I did. I paid for it before I had my baby, kept the receipt and submitted it and a prescription from the dr and was reimbursed from the insurance. If not, maybe look into buying a cheaper manual one to use if the hospital won't give you a rental. Not ideal, but just an idea.

I'm trying to get a breast pump thru insurance also , they just want to know the due date and stuff so it can be shipped before baby gets here , but also heard some moms didn't get thiers til after the baby was born.

What insurance do you have? That really stinks. Maybe call the hospital and ask them.
