Sciatica During Pregnancy
Sciatica During Pregnancy
I've been having issues with constant lower back pain, for a month now. Well the pain is starting to travel down my right leg. I've been told by my dr it's my sciatic nerve. But my dr didn't recommend anything to get rid of it!! He said, "you can research some stretches online." ??? That's it?!!!??? Stretching??! Ugh!! I sit at a desk all day for work so I'm assuming that's what is causing it. This pain is crazy!!! And the worst part is...I'm only 8 weeks.

I had the same problem. I did a few of those stretches i found online at night before bed and then slept on my opposite side of the back pain for as much as the night as I could and that helped a lot the next day. Also I tried to walk around at my job too when I could. I have a desk job too but the more I walked the better it was.

Unfortunately there really isn't anything the Dr can do.
You can try massage or chiropractic but they may not be willing to do that until you're out of your first trimester.
Yoga, stretching, heating pads may give temporary relief. You can get these yoga roller things that you lay on to roll it out and that helps a bit.
Walk lots. It seems backwards because it will hurt at first but once you loosen up its good for you. I find mine is worse when I'm inactive.
Sorry you're dealing with it already ?

I've been having sciatic pain too (7 weeks tomorrow). I think it started so early because I have a history of back pain including sciatica with my last pregnancy. When I was pregnant last time I think they gave me pain meds, but once I had my daughter and was still having pain they just referred me to a physical therapist. I had a newborn plus I was going to school - I didn't have time and wasn't able to go to PT.
I can barely give DD a bath because it hurts so much, especially straightening up after kneeling down and leaning over. Grrrr, sorry for venting on your post but I feel so frustrated too and it's like no one cares. I think most doctors just don't care and assume most people want meds.

36 weeks and I've been having this pain. Almost makes my hips numb. I've been living with my heating pad on my back and I've been using tiger balm. Seems to help a little.

I had sciatica for a couple weeks. I may still have it just not as bad. My Dr told me it was where my baby was breeched and was sitting on that sciatic nerve causing the pain to shoot down my left leg. Unfortunately I am on my feet all day and the longer I was the more it hurt but I think baby boy has moved from that side or "flipped" as my Dr said he would. I used heating pads, hot showers, butt massages and my Dr said a maternity belt might of helped. It was just due to so much weight gain so fast. Good luck and hopefully the pain doesn't last too long.

I know people are like nothing works but I used a hot water bottle on the base of my back whenever or at night. Helped so much. I got stuck on the floor for 3 days due to nerve pain. No one would touch me and my physiotherapist was on holiday. It was nasty. Seriously try the hot water bottle. Didn't think it would work for me but it did I was so relieved!

Thanks everyone for the tips!! I just can't believe it's this bad already. And my dr said I will more than likely be dealing with it throughout the pregnancy ??
