I'm taking my sister to the health department on Friday to get hers removed. She's had some residual bleeding from it and her SO and her have decided to also start trying for a baby. Health department will remove it for her because they are the ones who did it. For free.

I had a friend who removed it in the bath tub on her own. Her doctor explained how to do it since she wanted it out sooner then when the doctor could see her. She said it was really easy. I also had two friends who made the comment they should have and could have done it themselves when they got theres removed. But that being said ive heard horror stories of it implanting into women and i couldnt imagine not knowing that and trying to pull it out. Ive never had this form of BC but thats my experience from others.

Yes, I'm capable of having a child, in my post I never said I couldn't AFFORD to get it taken out, I said i didn't want to pay $400 for a ONE MINUTE PROCEDURE. Thanks for your concern ?

Got it, I'm in California and all reproductive health care is free or very low cost if you can't afford it or don't have insurance.

I took mine out myself. My hubby helped a little at first because I couldn't really reach it. I'm not going to say that you should do it because obviously there are risks but I just figured I'd try to pull on it a little and if I felt like it hurt I would stop. It never did a moment of pressure when I finally started getting it to move that was all. My cousin took hers out herself so I figured I would try and I didn't have an issue.

Why don't u go and say u r having severe cramping. When I had mine, I had so many issues bad cramps, painful sex, bleeding here and there infrequently. And they told me it's better to remove. So because of a medical issue they took it out.

How long have you had it? I removed mine a couple years ago. I squatted down, grabbed the Strings, and gently pulled on them. It popped right out surprisingly, and I didn't feel a thing. I had it for 8 months. I was so tired of it.

There might be more of a risk that it's misplaced the longer you've had it. If you wind up doing it yourself, take it very slowly. Make sure the strings are in the correct spot. Stop immediately if you have any pain or bleeding. I didn't bleed afterwards.

I'm in the UK so we have the NHS which is free but I couldn't imagine taking it out myself as it was super uncomfortable for me to have out (everyone is different)

The person asking whether they should be having another child if they can't afford $400, nobody should judge someone else's situation, besides, the way I read it, she seems more annoyed at the fact it costs so much to be removed rather than not being able to afford it. Besides, who really wants to spend that amount before even trying for a baby. Nobody wants to! It's a must (if no other options are available)

So yeah, I wouldn't remove myself because it was uncomfortable for me, either find a cheaper way or pay the $400 even though that price is ridiculous! And good luck ?

And no you can not remove it yourself! I just went to the doctors today and it was kindof a painful procedure. Doctor couldn't find it at first.

@pp how often do you throw 400 dollars at one time? It's a good bit of money. I don't know many people who have it laying around to just toss away.

If you are concerned about the cost of getting your birth control removed, do you think you are capable of affording the cost of a child? Genuine question from a point of concern, not meant to hurt feelings.

Do you have a clinic close by that may be able to do the removal at a lower cost? I've never had an IUD but the clinics in my area do the removals all the time. They do look at your income but for some reason your insurance seems to cover a larger portion of the procedure costs. Guess it's the way they code for billing.

I live in Georgia. I have two different kind of insurances and neither covered anything. I prob won't do it myself but super annoying paying almost 400 for a 1 minute procedure

When I had mine removed at my docs office, she asked me to cough and she pulled at the same time and it came right out...no pain at all. I've seen one of the real housewives (I think it was Kim Zolciak?) remove her own at home, her husband did it in the bathroom for her in a few minutes lol that's not a valid source but it can be done!

I removed my own Paragard iud almost 2 months ago. I didn't have insurance and I was sick of bleeding all the time. So during my period, I went in the shower, found the string and pulled it slowly. Came out super easily. It costs $200 to get it removed at my doctor's office.

What state do you live in?? You may be able to get it removed for free...Please don't remove it yourself, you can definitely cause damage.

I had the Paragard and removed it myself. Just squatted down with my legs wide open, reached in, felt the string. Gripped it and pulled. Pulled straight down and it came on out. I had no issues. But that was me.

Mine cost $195 to remove. It funny ... insurance covered placing it 100%. But not to remove. Took a couple minutes tops in the office to do. ??‍♀️

I wonder why it's so expensive to have removed?? Mine cost around $100 to remove the first time and nothing to remove the second time. I had mine removed by doctor for peace of mind, I didn't want to get in a bind if it wasn't in correct placement.

That sounds dangerous! I would be afraid I would do damage.

I have no experience with the mirena but I have known a few ladies who have had it. I heard it can be rather painful to remove. Try to do as much research about home removal as possible. My main concern for you would be the possibility of doing irreversible damage when trying to remove it. Either way I wish you the best of luck and lots of baby dust!
