@nicole I seen that and dump all of it out and looked at the bottom than poured it back in. He has a doctors appointment next week and I will definitely be discussing acid reflux and colic with his doctor. It did seem like my little man was starving, even with 6 oz he would cry for more, and like a pp said I went with my instinct. I will always do what's in the best interest of my child, but I probably won't follow every single doctors rule. In the end though, my son my decision.

@nicole, omg I seen that too it was so gross lol

They don't recommend adding it to formula b4 4 months in most circumstances and not eating it until 6m. If you are formula feeding I would say switch to enfamil ar that has some added rice starch to it. And I would contact your dr. ;)

Also theres a post going around on FB a lady found mold and bugs green stuff at the buttom of the gerber brand rice cereal so be aware idk how true it is!!! But now im terrified to use mine lol

I started when my daughter was 5 weeks.... it helped some she was drinking 2 oz of the cereal and wants more lol shes my little piggy i also feed her formula then if shes still hungry an hr later give her some cereal and its not a every day thing lol maybe once or twice a week at night when shes nit geting full also the dr thinks she might havr gerd

Sounds like colic, some babies feed extra to soothe themselves but you don't want to over feed. I had the same problem but I started the Gerber Colic Calm Probiotic drops and it solved his gas problems in a few days and he is sleeping better as well.

If your baby has reflux and can't keep anything down its one thing. But like I said I put it in Harpers formula for reflux and it does not fill her up anymore than formula without cereal. It just helps to weigh it down so she doesn't spit up every ounce she ate, and fails to thrive. I would talk to your pediatrician about adding any type of cereal to your breast milk/formula.

Consumer reports released a report about high levels of arsenic in white rice.
If your baby is eating 6 oz every hour I'd probably call the Dr. Adding extra might not be the answer. Some babies cry and act hungry when their tummies hurt but they aren't really hungry. It could be colic.

@87 I'm sure ella's dr is talking about the arsenic in it.
deleted-user·
@ellabell what's in it? My pediatrician's office is the oldest and most renowned ped office in my city and they still recommend the rice cereal....so I'm sitting here like huh? lol

Her doctor said no rice cereal. There is something in it. I forget but it made my MIL and so freak and made me Toss it. We were told to use oatmeal cereal

I started my baby girl on single grain rice cereal at around 4 weeks, maybe a little before I can't remember. Doctors orders! She has bad reflux and can't keep her formula down otherwise. It doesn't help to stretch her feedings out or fill her up more, only to weigh her formula down so she doesn't spit every single ounce back up.

Just giving my input on the matter. Not telling anyone what to do besides consulting the dr first.

That's great Krystal!
@Annie. Not all babies are the same and for those who know it all empty calories/nutrition or not we all know our babies! My twin girl can't hold breastmilk or formula down or even her Zantac for the life of her. I've heard that rice cereal is super helpful to babies with bad reflux and when it becomes a weight gain issue possible starvation because they can't hold down those valuable nutrition in formula/breastmilk then who cares about the rice cereal not being nutritious its not like we are giving it to them for that matter! And if some moms feel the need to add it us they feel their baby is starving again... Your not that child/babies mother! There's a reason it's called maternal instinct or mother knows best! I asked about bacteria cause my next move is to ask the pediatrician at babies apt on Monday and was wondering to those who have done it if they knew what it did before hand so I can discuss it with the pediatrician.

I gave it to him and it seems to be doing good! He's sitting in my lap actually smiling and not being fussy :)

I give my 8 week old oatmeal cereal it works for her!

If a baby wants to eat often, rice cereal is not what they need. It's empty calories with zero nutrition, and the only reason they go longer without wanting more is because it takes a long time for their immature digestive systems to attempt to digest and pass through...not because they're "full". The undigestible waste becomes a feast for bad gut bacteria, which can cause all sorts of problems. Rice cereal shouldn't be given before 6 months (or at all imo) unless recommended by the dr for very severe reflux cases. Eating every hour is still normal for some babies at this point. If you feel something isn't right, talk to your dr first. Baby needs nutrition, not undigestible material.

^^^ I've never heard of bacteria in the cereal but that might be the reason it makes their little tummies ache. If you want to try it I would start off with the rice cereal bc it's not that heavy. And just put it in one of their bottles and see how they react to it. My son was very fussy the first time I gave it to him so I figured it hurt his stomach. Everyone of my friends and fam started to give their babies cereal at 1 month. Just seems like they're never full off of this formula

Ok I'm not against this cuz I may have to do the same thing with my twin girl due to really bad reflux. But I've also been told not to do it too early because of the bacteria in cereal. Does anyone know about this and what it affects or why its bad?
deleted-user·
I did at 4 weeks because my son was the same way, I think it hurt his tummy so imma try again at 8 weeks which will be this Sunday.
deleted-user·
Oh my I'd take him to the drs that's a lot of milk! You could burst his stomach :/ hope he settles soon!

How did it work out? I put up a post a few weeks ago ( I know it was early) asking opinions out of desperation and kinda got some negative responses. It has no nutritional value. But my pediatrician told me that it helps to prevent vomiting and my baby vomits pretty bad then she is starving again and it keeps both of us from sleep. He told me not to start till my lo is 3 months. I think Email has a thicker formula with rice maybe you can try that if you are not pumping. I'm bf and pumping so I haven't tried tht formula.
