Protein sources for picky kids

My son isn’t vegetarian, but he won’t eat any meat other than chicken and won’t eat beans. I’m trying to find ways to hide meat in more foods, or alternative proteins. He will eat things with added protein powder (a collagen powder with amino acids) but he won’t eat a dang burger!

That’s a great idea OP, he’s older so I’m sure being a part off the process of choosing his foods will make him feel grown up ?

Try making it fun last night we had green eggs and ham. We read the book before dinner and I made egg whites with chopped spinach and broccoli (green food coloring) and ham was pork tenderloin (defrosted in a green water bath). DS ate that up and wants it again for dinner.

I'm glad that you found something that will work for you. It really is so stressful. Let me know how it goes!

He does love most nuts and chia! I need to sit down with him to look at the different foods on Pinterest. Maybe if he picks things and helps me cook, he will eat different stuff.

OP if you have Pinterest it may help doing a search on veggies high in protein. I’m very visual and the aids I’ve seen help me remember the higher protein sources

He does like pasta with meat sauce, and sometimes meatballs. They’re usually pork, but I could try using beef when he’s not helping cook.

We di eggs or shakes for me.. but my child shares with me lol. I'm trying to gain healthy weight to stay healthy while pregnant lol.. I'm still 2 pounds under my prepregnancy weight so still have a little ways to go lol. Even if I gain like 7 more pounds before baby is here I'll be happy lol

My mom makes her own fruit purée pouches with different fruits and she hides veggies in them for my niece and nephew and they have no clue

Uh... yeah they do. 4-8 yr olds need 16-20g daily.

I do yogurt a lot. Smoothies with Greek yogurt. Whole grain breads. Cheese. Kids don't need a ton of protein.

I need help too and I’m in the same boat as yaya. My daughter won’t eat meat and she is allergic to egg, peanut, tree nuts, soybean, chicken, sesame seeds and shellfish. The only source of protein she gets is from dairy. We are going to a dietician soon because she is slipping further and further down on the growth chart for weight. It’s stressful.

He’s not big on dairy. He will drink chocolate milk occasionally. But you have carrots or green peppers within 1 mile of him, and they’re gone! Or fruit. He will eat bacon occasionally, too. So we have breakfast food a lot. I got him chia pouches to eat at school for snacks.

My 2 year old eats anything not nailed down!!! Luckily I don’t have any allergies to contend with, but I want him to have enough protein. He’s growing so fast lately, he’s getting scrawny!

My boy won’t eat meat or beans either. He gets protein mainly from dairy, lots of yogurt and milk. And peanut butter.

Fage 0 or 2% greek yogurt is awesome, low fat, high protein & no added sugar. 6 oz has 18 grams of protein.

My son likes veggie patties and we sneak some vitamin powder stuff into chocolate milk. Those are the whopping 2 healthy things he eats. Keep trying new things. Eventually your kid may eat it. I've been offering what I'm going to eat for dinner first to my son, then give him a plate of food he likes. Sometimes he eats a new thing.

Peanut butter or other nut butters, nuts in general, cheese, greek yogurt, hummus, chia seeds(can out them in smoothies), eggs, spinach (can also blend it in with smoothies or chop finely and add to soups or eggs). Our dd typically doesnt eat meat either. Especially red meat. So we have had to get creative in finding other things to give to her.

Peanut butter is our saviour for protein in my little boy. His autism causes a lot of issues around food but peanut butter in sandwiches go down a treat.

He also LOVES these things called “Naked Bars” which is pressed raw fruits and nuts. He likes them better than he likes chocolate ?‍♀️
