circumcision..?

So my boyfriend and I found out Tuesday that we are having a boy, just as we suspected. As much as this excited us it brings forth alot of hard topics and decisions to make. One of these being circumcision. Most people that I know are all for it and have done it with their babies, we are indifferent on doing it; as the both of us know people who had either had it done or have had it done to their children and the doctors messed it up which has caused multiple problems for the people. Yet we still have 18 weeks to come to a decision, I would like to get everyone's input, thoughts, feelings, and stories on the situation. Maybe it will help us make up our minds.

Not having my son circumsised! No medical benefit, I wouldn't have a nose job done on my newborn so why have a cosmetic genital procedure right? The way I see it, it's his choice, and if he wants to have it done later that's fine but highly unlikely!

For the comment above I don't believe it's cosmetic there are people who need it medically just saying

Yes

Elephant in the hospital is a great informative video. You should watch it, on top of everything else you look into.

Many people in the medical field in America are pro circumcision because they worry about infections but with proper intact care you have to worry about infections less than or equal to with having a girl.

Don't watch elephant in the hospital. It is very anti circumcision and biased. Watch or read articles that don't swing one way or the other, ones that are neutral. We decided to circumcise because after working as a CNA, I've seen way too many nasty infections in uncircumcised men/boys.

We didn't circumcise our son and we won't be circumcising this baby if a boy either. I didn't because I personally didn't feel the need to. My fiancé is however circumcised and even he said he didn't want our son done. But I do not judge any parents who choose to get the cosmetic procedure :)

I had my first child (son) in 2011. We had him circumcised, now to this day, I feel like that was my biggest fail as a parent and my biggest regret. I am currently pregnant with number 3 and if this is a boy he will remain intact (not circumcised). As others have said, if there is only one thing I could say to you as advice, YouTube " Elephant in the Hospital." (Or see link below) I wish someone would have told me to do so. Just as important to note, if you go the route of leaving him intact, proper intact care is to clean what is seen. Do no pull the skin back and do not let anyone else, even the doctors. This will lead to future infections. The only person that should pull at the skin is your son himself. (The skin naturally starts to retract around 8-12 years of age, but it should be done naturally not forcefully).

Wow, after reading all these, I don't think I'm going to circumcise either. Thank you everyone for your input.

We won't be. Totally a personal decision, I feel like cutting off part of the genitals for cosmetic reasons isn't right...my DH is circumcised and doesn't have any problems with leaving our littles intact.

I believe if father is then baby is because baby will be in open stalls with daddy after learning to use the potty. My eldest son didn't have enough skin removed but he's growing into his circumcision. But because he looked different down there than my dad and brother and his dad it always made him question why he was different. He's going to be going to the potty in open stalls for the rest of his life and I didn't want him feeling weird or different. Now that big bubba is 5 this one will be circumcised too

I was kind of in the middle. I didn't want to. But thought if my husband really did we would need to compromise. At first he said yes. So I asked him to research it then let me know. He took two days researching and came back saying he would not be letting it happen to our son (mind you my husband is circumcised).

There is absolutely no right or wrong. Each one has it's pros and cons. The only bad choice is an uneducated one. Saying we are doing it because everyone else does it (which isn't true, in the US it's about 60/40 right now). Saying that it's cleaner (the risk of infection is so low my doctor couldn't even give a stat). Saying that it's more work. Or my favorite "I want my sons penis to look like my husbands". That never crossed mine or my husbands mind. Like are they going to be standing in the bathroom comparing their penis? No. Has my daughter ever had an up close look at my vagina. No ? and why would we teach our children that if they don't look like someone else they aren't normal. These are all social opinions, not fact. And on the flip side saying your baby could bleed out is not the norm. Or that it's going to permanently damage this sex life is unrealistic. There is not enough benefit to circumcision for it to be recommend as a routine procedure (AAP statement). So it's up to the parents to research and make an informed decision. Don't make a major decision regarding your kids health based on the opinions of others. Base it on fact, as it is a medical procedure.

Also just a side note. It is painful for them. That is proven. And if you plan to breastfeed it can interfere with that process. That is why a lot of doctors are doing it a couple days later in the pediatricians office. To allow a couple days for latching to be somewhat established. I'm in the feeding group and have seen a couple people who started bf fine and then after the circumcision their baby was in pain and refused to latch. I don't know if it was cause or correlation but I'm glad we didn't because we had enough trouble as is with bf. If my son wants it done when he's older he can do it with proper anesthesia and pain relief and at his own will.

Before I was even a mom I was always curious about pregnancy and wanting to learn about it before it actually was happening to me. Circumcision was never a thought to me.. I always just figured I'd let my SO decide. Until I watched "Jesssfam - oh boys.. circumcision?" Video on YouTube. Completely changed my mind and view on it. I now have a 4 month old baby boy who is still intact :)

My fiance doesn't want our son circumcised because he's not and doesn't see a need for it.

I did my research and will not be doing it. There is no reason for it.

It may be medically necessary later on in life but that's only 1/16000 chance.

600 infants die in the USA every year from circumcision. That right there should be enough to convince a person!

I don't agree with mutilating infants, and yes they DO feel pain.

I think it's disgusting and we should know better by now!

All three of my boys have been circumcised at the hospital with no issues and this one will be also. Good luck, hun.

A very controversial topic here. You'll get a lot of comments on this! There are several posts about this. I respect everyone's opinion. I had my son circumcised. It's what my significant other wanted and so did I. I wanted it done because my brothers got very infected and he had to have his done at 9 years old. I'd much rather want it done now then something happen and deciding to end up getting it done later. My brother remembers everything. No judgment here, if you decide not to get it done or if you do it's better to decide now where he won't remember.

Our 3.5 year old son is circumcised. I was indifferent and left the decision up to my husband. My husband is circumcised as well so he wanted him to the be the same and knock on wood up until now we haven't had any issues.

Definitely a personal choice

I didn't do that to my boys..they say for it to be clean but I always take the time to clean it and never have I had issues with them..my oldest is 7 and knows how to keep it clean

My son is not circumcised because I didn't want to cut off an important part of his body.

The history of circumcision in the U.S. is disturbing. Doctors first did it thinking that tight foreskin caused different conditions such as paralysis which is absurd. It morphed into a cure for masturbation then it was done because it's "cleaner." Upper class folks were doing it so lower class people wanted to do it too. Now it's so routine most people don't even ask questions.

If you visit the babycenter website for the U.S. they endorse circumcision but the U.K. site does not. We are the only country that routinely circumcises boys at birth.

Visit Saving Our Sons and The Whole Network on FB. They have a lot of great info and were essential in my 5 month long argument with my husband to not circumcise our boy.

My 15 year old has thanked him for not circumcising him. My 9 year old has no idea why someone would want to do that to him. I am not circumcising this baby either. His father and I see it as completely unnessessary but if this boy wants to be done in the future its his choice.

My boyfriend, and father of the child, is circumcised and wants our son(s) done. He's the one with the penis so I left it up to him lol. I also have a friend who wasn't and had to be done later in life, he said it was the most painful thing he ever had to go through and wished his mom had had him done at birth

My SO is but our son isn't circumcised. He is followed by urology for his hypospadias and many of the urologists we spoke to have intact sons. That was enough for me (along with all the their research I've done) to feel confident with leaving him intact.

I have 5 boys and all are circumcised. I remember my uncle who was in his mud 40s he said at the time went to get it done he said it was the WORST pain he ever experienced and wished his mother did it for him while he was a baby

I find it so sad that babies have To go through so much pain I've heard from people that they struggled so much with there boys when they got circumcise ?

It's a completely unnecessary procedure that is now considered purely cosmetic. Circumcision rates are declining. It's not even done outside of North America except for religious reasons. My husband is intact thinks the procedure is unnecessary and cruel, so we did not circumcise our son.

This forum is frequented by a lot of Americans so you will get answers that predominantly favour circumcision. It's best to do your own research about it than to ask for opinions here.

All the boys in my family or the ones I have talked to have had it done and recommend doing it unfortunately I'm allergic to iodine and that is what they use when doing surgery so I'm not willing to take the chance and put my son's life in danger

I have 3 sons and all 3 are circumcised. When I had my first son, I was 22 and thought that that was just what you did. When I had my 2nd baby I was on the fence and by my 3rd I felt like I had to do it because his brothers were done and I didn't want him to feel like he was "different". When I got pregnant again I was so nervous for it to be another boy because I didn't want to have to go through the procedure again, but luckily it's a girl this time! Needless to say, if I was more mature and had better information when I had my first I don't think any of my boys would have been done...

It's all personal choice, look up pros and cons of the procedure and decide for yourself. You two are the parents and any decision you make will be the right one for your baby. Take the time you have left and really think about it.

I'm having a boy too and I left the decision to my SO because he's the one with a penis. He's circumcised and he wants his son circumcised. Period. There isn't a right or wrong answer, it's your choice

My son is circumcised. He is 8 now. At the time it was just what they did, there wasn't a lot of people advocating for more natural ways to do things and everyone I knew was circumcised. At the time cord clamping happened immediately too and skin to skin wasn't a thing either. It's crazy how much changes.

I have always said that I wouldn't get it done if I had a boy .. I looked up a video and that was enough to for me . people say it can get infected if it's not done but it's as simple as washing it like a finger . you do it while they're young and teach them as they grow how to do it themselves then they obviously do it while they're older for themselves . My SO isn't circumcised and has never had any problems

Нравится Ответить

I have four sons who did not have the procedure. It's elective here and recommended to not have it done unless for religious reasons. There are high risks associated with it both after surgery and later. It's truly a personal choice that you two will have to make and I wish you well doing so? My older two's father wanted it done but I refused, I researched and have no religious ties to it anyways.

Good luck❤️ and congrats?

I’m sorry but I’m still not circumcising my son 🤷🏽‍♀️ and I don’t care what anyone has to say about it either cause it’s not right to me. That’s their decision to make.
