Count your kicks!

Ladies... please, please, PLEASE count your kicks every day! I feel like I've read about too many losses this late in pregnancy and it breaks my heart to hear about it.

Had my doctors appointment yesterday. She told me not to bother. As long as I am in tune to babies movements and aware of when she is most active there is no need. She even said that on days she is not as active that I probably don't need to worry. She said that is probably due to her facing away so I don't feel them as much or I'm preoccupied and don't notice as much. I am also very low risk and have a normal pregnancy. I think that if you're high risk it might be a better idea to keep track. Otherwise no need for extra stress.

Kick counter is completely over rated. Our first was a twin (we lost the other early on) and I stressed so bad when he wouldn't move. We went to the er many times due to the kick counter theory. Needless to say he was just fine. Pay attention to your body but if your baby isn't exactly on don't stress. each baby is different!

I agree with the pp!! That's just an added stress and is very scary to think about! ?

Count kick thing is over rated . My doctor said that is nothing but an extra worry. As long as she is having some kind of activity

They say that you should start this around your 28th week or third trimester.

I feel my baby all the time. I count 10 kicks in 2 minutes, then she slows down and does it again :) but honestly there are days when she really slows down and it scares me to death.

@Maddz09-well said!!! That's where my heart is. Counting kicks is simply causing me unnecessary worry. I can only monitor movement as my intuition leads and the rest is in Gods hands.

I count kicks but I guess at the end of the day we only have so much control and have to trust God. I try to avoid reading stories about losses. It always scares me. We can only do so much. Here's to happy healthy and safe pregnancies for all of us with beautiful

Healthy babies at the end of it. ??

It's my understanding that babies sleep for hours at a time as well. The suggestion is to count for ten kicks in an hour at a time your baby is typically most active. For me this is around ten or eleven at night. I do make sure he is moving then and I feel him periodically all throughout the day too, but not feeling anything for an hour or two doesn't really mean something is wrong. I'm not sure it's really all that useful other than to maybe remind those not paying attention or monitoring at all to keep an eye on movement and make sure there is not a big change in the pattern if baby's movement.

Yes I agree with pp....with my other three children this was never told to me to count kicks. Now we have these apps that encourage us which is helpful. But my doctor is never saying anything about counting kicks, she only asks is the baby is moving lots. I'm confused, I'm more worrisome now than my previous pregnancies because of all this talk of counting kicks. It's good for sure, but also leaves me worried most the day making sure baby moves often. Already since hearing about counting kicks I've thought several times about going to get baby checked because I don't always feel it move according to what is required.

Yes this scares me to death this time around in my other pregnancies it was before we had all this social media and apps and It wasn't something you heard about often 13 and 12 years ago

. now everytime I see or hear something about stillbirth it sends me in a panic I pretty much just have to stay away from the app and posts for a few days and try and keep my mind off of it.

They recommend counting them at a time when you are sitting or laying down as baby tends to be more active when you aren't. If you aren't feeling anything eat something, drink something cold or sugary, move around a bit then lay down and try it again. There is a kick counter on this app to help you keep track.

My little guy moves around a lot too. But his times are pretty consistent unless I'm moving around a LOT and he's asleep. Then I just remind myself to slow down and relax if I can and that's when I'll feel him move.

Like I said, only you know when your baby is most active during the day. I just hear these sad stories about women who wait longer than a day to go to the doctor if they don't feel any movement :(

OMG. It's so scary. This baby moves so much, I don't need to count. 10 movement in 5 minutes sometimes. When he's quiet for a little bit, the scary thoughts just fill my head. ?

Honestly I am wondering, how often should you feel the baby kick? I was doing a lot the other day and I really didnt feel her for like a day and I was wondering if it was because i was moving so much. I feel her kicking again but I have never done kick counts and im not sure what is considered dangerous?

My auntie was 7 months with their third (they now have 7) and in the morning she felt baby move then in the afternoon she didn't feel anything, she got worried and went to the hospital and that's when they found out baby passed away. I may not count the kicks but I time how long she moves each time I feel it.
