Playing with her food
My baby is 4 weeks old and recently she's started what looks like playing with my nipple. She'll root around like she's hungry but she just kind of smacks on my nipple and stares at me, or she'll pull back and just stare. She always starts to root around right after she does it though, so I'm not sure if she's hungry and something is wrong or if she just wants to play. Any advice?

Maybe she's having difficulty latching correctly?
I'd talk to a lactation consultant just to be sure.
ETA: One of my nipples is kinda flat and inverted, so I have to squeeze my nipples before feeding my DD so that it gets hard and she can actually get her mouth around it.

My dd does this lol. She started playing around at about 2 months old. I just let her do it. Meh i figure she'll eat if she's hungry. Typically she'll do it a few minutes after she has nursed. As if she only wanted a 'snack' but then wants to play. I don't really have advice, sorry, but just know you're not alone.

I don't think it's her latch, we've been doing really well with nursing and she's had a really good latch almost since the beginning.
I guess she's not really hungry and is just playing around like @pps LO.
She just played around with it for about 5 minutes then she latched on and fell asleep.

I feel like my baby does it for comfort. She also tends to do it when she wakes up for the day after her breakfast. That's when she's the most playful. She will punch, smack, pinch, and even headbutt my boob when she's playing around. ??? Then look up at me like "look what i can do!"

Mine does that same thing. Unlatches and stares at me ? sometimes she'll smile like she remembered that I'm there. It's really cute but kind of annoying when she does it at night and I just need her to eat and go to sleep ??

Lol well it's good to know that it's normal.

My LO does this but she's 2.5 months. She only does it when she isn't really hungry. But she's also a super efficient eater lol. She doesn't play around when it comes to her food! Haha
