Back to school

Right now I'm not working, I have about 2 weeks until my first baby is due and I have so many people asking when I'm going back to work. The thing is, I don't want to unless it's something that can not only contribute to our household but something I enjoy as well. I have a bachelors degree in English, and before I met and married my husband I was actually using it as a technical writer and I was making good money. Now that we're married I moved to a place that has no demand for really anything related to my degree unless I went back to school.

I think you should do what makes you happy!

I have a bachelors in Psych and would need to go back to school to get decent pay. Thankfully my husband makes enough for me to do what truly makes me happy, which is staying home with our son and soon to be 2nd.

I think you should also discuss this with your husband and see what he thinks. If I went back to work now, I'd make just enough to hire a full time nanny or send my son to daycare, so it doesn't make sense for us. Weigh out your options and do what's best for your family. If you want to go back to school, why not?! Go for it! If you want to be a SAHM, that's an extremely important job too and it's definitely not selfish!

I think this is something you and your husband need to talk about more. If you're feeling selfish about it, did you tell him? Have you considered a part time job? There's nothing wrong with him making more money and paying for the essentials, but at least you could pay for your phone bill, your clothes, etc.

I also think you need to do what makes you happy. If going back to school is something you want to do, don't let anything hold you back!

I have talked to my husband about it several times, but he's against it. He doesn't want me to rack up any more student loans, which I do understand. I just feel like if I have a masters and I can find a better paying job and begin making a dent in my loans. Right now they're in deferral, but I'm going to have to start paying on them at some point.
