So many misconceptions about di/di twins!

I read that if an egg splits early the two embryos can implant separately which would look like fraternal twins, but as you said only DNA can confirm for sure.

This is what I have discovered recently also! I am 31 weeks with di/di girls and we're discussing with the dr next week about options for testing them. I have heard they can test the placenta also and that would give the same results? But I also question what difference it makes if they're identical or fraternal?

Most monozygotic twins usually split in the early blastocyst stage (day 4/5) which results in shared placenta and chorions but separate amniotic sacs, there's a rare chance that they can split during 2 cell zygote stage (day 2/3) which results in completely separate placenta amniotic sac and chorionic cavity, if it splits in the late blastocyst stage (day 5/6) then they will share everything including amniotic sac. My godsons are identical but had their own separate placenta and sacs ?

I have di di girls and I am curious to find out if they are identical. How do I go about that?

Test them after they are born.

Not every professional are like the ones you've encountered. In fact, every one of mine made it clear of the different types.

We know mine are identical because they share one placenta (mo/di).

I've had the same experience of being misinformed. My OBGYN and 3 different ultrasound techs have told me that there is zero chance of my Di Di girls being identical. I've read that DNA is the only way to know for certain. Its frustrating that professionals are not educated on this and it makes for an awkward conversation of me challenging their education and experience.lol

I dont remember the percentage but mo/di does not ALWAYS mean identical there is a small percentage that are fraternal and their placentas just fused early on

@heimtwins I'm in the UK and used DNA solutions. From what I've read the best place in the US is Proactive Genetics. It's a simple cheek swab so non invasive.

@slopez it never mattered to me either way wether they were ID or not but I do believe it's something they should know about themselves
