Sitting still

So dd is 18 mos. She never sits still. EVER! I know she's still young but it would help a lot when taking her to appts and public places. I don't expect her to just sit and be quiet 24/7 but do you ladies have any advice on how to teach her to sit still for little periods of time? I always have toys and books on hand but she looses interest very quickly and gets very excited being out and about.

I don't think it's anything you can teach at least before 3,

It's all personality, my ds has always been quite and still, doesn't run or scream, he entertains himself very easily and will sit long periods of time quietly and happily, he's now 23 months and it's still the same...

I haven't taught him to do that, it's just his personality..

My nephew is a few months older then my ds, sense the day he took his first step, he's been a terror, he never walks its full out running and screaming 24/7 can't get him to sit to save his life, he's always been on the move and can't be still from the word go.

When they are older and can fully comprehend, that's when you can curb the restless behaviour and teach them to sit and be still, until then your doing all you can with the books and toys.

My midwife called my daughter a busy baby as she never stopped moving from birth. She was always wiggling before she could move properly, then rolling everywhere, then crawling at lighting speed and now she runs....everywhere!

My best advice is to tire them out before going anywhere important. Make a fun game that involves a lot of movement and play that before going out. Then take books, toys, whatever will keep them occupied afterward.

When my daughter was little I made sure I got out at least once a day, on a play date , park visit or playgroup to keep her energy levels manageable! Heck a walk around the block pointing out the houses would go some way to keeping my 'Duracell bunny' of a child's energy in check!

Haha pp! Dd in all her ultrasounds never stopped moving. Getting measurements on her was a nightmare. Lol. She never stops. Dh runs around the house playing with her constantly. We have her run around the yard several times a day. She goes down for a nap and bedtime no problem. But she just won't stop moving otherwise. Sometimes I can get her to sit and watch spongebob for like 10 mins but that's rare lol. We bought her a cute chair to sit in...she drags it around the house. ?
