Mormon ladies

I tried looking up a Mormon group but the last post was like 18mos ago. I grew up LDS but left the church when I was 16 for personal reasons. I'm not here to bash or anything. I just have a question. So my dad doesn't do well with being alone. He was married at 20 with my mom for 13 years. 3 months after the divorce he married my stepmom. He converted to LDS and was sealed in the temple. She passed this last October due to cancer. Well he's been friendly with my younger brothers economics teacher from last semester. He's not very open about talking about it so I don't pry. I just want him to be happy. He told me tonight, "let's put it this way, I can see myself married in a year." I don't have a problem with that I'm just wondering how that works. When your sealed to your spouse in the temple you will be together for eternity (after death) do you get sealed again if you remarry in the temple to another LDS member? Is it a choice to be sealed? He's pretty active so I'm not sure his stance on her converting and having a temple marriage.

Just to set the record straight for anyone keeping up with this thread, women can be sealed to more than one man the same way men can be sealed to more than one woman. That perceived "inequality" is a common misconception, even among members of the LDS church. No, this was not a recent change.

@Bubbly thank you. I just didn't know. :)

@waffle I understand what you're saying but I'm answering OPs original question whether it was a choice her father to be sealed again or not. And yes, it is a choice. He doesn't have to be sealed in the temple if he chooses not to.

I'm LDS - and just to clarify, marriage and sealing are two different things. You can be LDS, be married civilly (like in court or via someone ordained to marry you) and not be sealed at all. Or you can be married & sealed in the temple (the sealer in the temple is also ordained to marry ppl). So your father can marry again, because by law he can. I'm sure if he has questions he can find the right ppl to ask. I'm not knowledgeable on the topic, I've heard lots of things but haven't studied it myself. But yes, it is a choice.

And to previous comments, I've known lots of families that have children stop going to church and have never known someone to disown them. It's probably the area where you're from, or certain families. It can happen in any religion, really.

My parents don't attend anymore and I def didn't disown them!

Pp I think they meant if the husband passed. Can she be sealed to another? What has been said is men can be sealed to another woman when his spouse he was sealed to passed but a woman can't.

Pp thats an exeption and very rare just like an annulment granted by the Catholic church is an exeption and rare. Ive grown up in a society dominated by those of the lds faith and while i know many who have wanted to be unsealed for one reason or another it doesnt happen very often. The church like it or not is patriarchal

Here's the deal. A temple sealing or marriage can be undone much like a Catholic marriage can be undone. One party just submits a request for the sealing to be removed and the church reaches out to the other party for their side of the story. The paperwork is filed and the sealing is removed.

How do I know this? My wonderful friend and relief society president was married and sealed for 25 years before her husband cheated on her and left her and the church. She grieved the marriage and then sought out a new partner within the church. Because she knew she wanted to marry someone strong in their faith in the church she went through the process of undoing her first sealing. The ex-husband didn't even bother to fill out and return his portion of the request but their church marriage was undone. She met her now husband and they were sealed in the temple 8 months later when they were wed.

This notion that women can only be sealed to one man ever is not true. It is another attempt to make the church appear to be overly patriarchic and unfair to women.

I'd like to fact check that link. Those are some crazy things that I never heard ever. I went to church actively for 16 years. It just goes to show every religion has its crazy side. Lol. Yes they can have cars. Most have bikes. My brother was in the Dallas Texas area. They had a car for a little

We are LDS. I feel like every church is different.. In Oklahoma they were so judge mental and harsh. They were super strict. Now we live in Iowa and they are more laid back. My MIL has been sealed once but married 7 times. They didn't allow her to be sealed multiple times because her past husbands were still alive. But the 7th husband and her got married in the church. My SO was married before me but didn't do a church wedding so when we get married it'll be in church and sealed. We don't do the whole you cant drink, smoke, drink anything but water or coffee. And we don't follow the rules on clothes unless we are in church because I don't believe in some of the teachings.

That's an interesting statement.....

Men can be sealed to multiple women. If his new wife was previously sealed in the temple to a husband who passed away she can only be sealed to one husband. So she would have to choose.

When I lived in Florida there were mormons everywhere and would always come to know but they were nice and weren't like jehovah witnesses when I would say no we don't practice that faith. I didn't know they left their family for that long ?. How come they can only ride bikes? They never had cars and I'm like dude it's hot outside. I've been trying to read more about different religions and I think I'm very interested in reading about mormons now. I don't agree with some of the stuff I've heard but I hope I can find old things on how they began

You don't have to go on a mission though

I don't know exactly why men are allowed to be sealed to multiple women but not the other way around.

Yes a mission is when you go for 2 years to where they send you. You get paired with someone and you let people know about the church. They knock on doors. They go to church where they are and are devoted to god work for that time. They are allowed to Skype or call on Mother's Day and xmas. Otherwise it's emailing or mail.

Why do men get to be sealed multiple times? My mom is so religious it aggravates me at times because she can never give me a real answer. I was raised around different Christian religions and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't understand the faith. I find going to Catholic Church easier for me because it's the same thing each time I go. Her friend recently started to come around more after her husband died because before she never talked to my mom because they didn't practice the same religion. It's all confusing and I wanna ask her to many questions but I don't wanna be rude. The mission are when you go out to spread the word?

Mormons are very friendly and welcoming. Do not be discouraged. I may not agree with the teachings of the church but the people are amazing. And this goes for many churches.

For instance baptists have a bad reputation due to some of the churches being in the news but when I lived in Texas a lot of my regulars and my best friend is baptist and they are wonderful people.

You can be sealed to your spouse (I guess men can be sealed to multiple women but not the other way around) and you can be sealed to your children. It is so you can be together for ever in heaven. There are 3 levels of heaven. Forgive me it's been awhile. The lowest level is the terrestrial? kingdom Jesus visits here but not Heavenly Father. Then the telestial? Kingdom. Heavenly Father and Jesus visit here. And then the highest kingdom is the celestial. God and Jesus live here. (This is what I was taught by my dad and the adults in the LDS churches I went to.

Unfortunately in many religions including LDS if a child or someone wants to leave the church the families do not want them in their lives. Not all families though. Mine still have contact with me and my brother. And we see my dad very regularly. It just depends.

When you seal a marriage what exactly does it mean?

Why do they disown you? I never understood why but I didn't ask since I knew it was a private matter.

@alou me and my older brother decided to leave the church. However my two younger brothers with a different mother stayed in the church. One actually went on a mission. And the other would have but was offered to play college football so he is waiting. You can go on a mission whenever.

I have always struggled with religions as has my older brother. I don't agree with the majority of what most churches believe and teach. I do respect people in their beliefs. All I want is other people to respect my beliefs and not "convert" me. Thankfully my father continued a relationship with me and my older brother and didn't shun us. He has always been very upset that we left the church.

I don't practice that religion but I really thought they couldn't remarry. My moms friend was saying that she couldn't marry again because she was going to go back to her husband one day. Their religion to me is a little off but that lady is so sweet. Pp why do most kids who grew up in that religion not practice it? Her kids were basically almost disowned by the husband when he was alive.

Pp I hope that wasn't directed towards me. I was raised LDS. I know most things about it. Just not the marriage part because I became inactive at about 16. I was just curious how that worked seeing as how my dad will probably remarry. I was not being disrespectful at all. I actually specifically said even though I don't agree with the beliefs in the church I love LDS people. They are very kind and welcoming. My mother who is not religious raised me to be open minded and respect people. Even if I do not agree with their beliefs or way of life. I love my dad, I am so happy he is able to have another chance at happiness. I just didn't know how getting sealed in a marriage worked as far as remarrying.

Waffle is correct. However I will say if you don't know about a religion you should not judge it. Unless they are breaking laws rooting hurting people ot property then leave them alone. Most of them don't judge other religions and if they do, they are taught not to. I for one have no issues how anyone belueves. I will not tell them the god is wrong or their believe of fiction. It's just that their beliefs. You don't have to agree but you don't have to put the down and remember all religions have free chouce. So you can't judge a religion on members action.

Nobody has to be sealed, no. It's a choice. If you get married in the temple you are automatically sealed. Unless the woman is already sealed to a deceased husband.

I absolutely love Mormons. My mommy is one! I Just know their beliefs are not true.

My grandpa remarried after my grandma passed away. His second wife was a widow who had been sealed to her husband, just as my grandpa had been sealed to my grandma. They were not sealed to each other during their marriage. I remember them saying when they died they would be with their original spouses in heaven, but felt blessed to have each other for their remaining time on earth.

I'm not LDS, never have been, never will be, but many relatives are and this seemed to make sense to them.

Oh. I mean I don't really agree with the beliefs of the Mormon church. But I will say the majority of LDS people I meet are the nicest most generous people. I don't have anything against the people. Just the church. So if a man remarrys to a women who was previously married and sealed he can be sealed to her but not the other way around? I don't understand.

deleted-user

Men can be sealed to all of their wife's. My grandfather remarried in the Temple. Women can only be sealed to one man. You have to be a worthy member to participate in temple ceremonies.

It's all just a Masonic ritual though. None of it's true. The Mormon God is not a loving God.

I see. But as I have never been married in the temple do you automatically get sealed as a couple or do you choose? This is assuming she converts of course. This has always confused me. I hear people say they will be reunited in heaven with their loved ones. But why do temple sealings with your spouse and family unless you believe you won't be reunited in heaven. I'm not meaning to be rude just honestly wondering.

so I need some advice, I'm currently pregnant from a man who is married with a ten year old. he says he married her because they were young and how he was raised that if you get someone pregnant you have to buckle down and be a man. now that I'm pregnant he says my child has to be a secret. no family from his side and none from myself because I have no family. I feel like my child is coming into this world like a burden from him. and I have no respect from my kids father . even worse he sleeps over his wife's house more that I'm pregnant and I got us our own place than when we were crashing on his ex girls house. I just feel like my child is getting the shit end of the stick and as a mother I feel like a piece of shit. I don't know what to do he doesn't treat me right. lives of off my minimum wage job. I have mental problems so people leaving my life causes long term trauma. so I don't know what I'd do if he weren't around . but he's not a positive influence and I'm expecting my first child.

Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no, his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me and did something else with an other girl.... and it's 10:51 am now and he hasn't texted me at all. and after he dropped me off I texted him saying what I felt and nothing. I don't know if I'm over reacting or what or what should i do. do i wait until he text me?
