I had a min pin the BADDEST dog I've ever known. He had small dog syndrome and was sooo unhappy . I tried everything I could to train him including countless classes and nothing worked. He peed everywhere, he bit people AND ME for no reason. He made my life a living hell ?. I eventually had to gave him away after 4 years of giving him chance after chance ?.
My in laws have a min pin and she is terrible. She hates other dogs and attacks them if they get anywhere close to her. She hates all people except for her two owners. She is nasty, snarly and bites. We can't have our LO around her because she's a biter. She is a miserable dog to be around. I've never met another min pin though so maybe they're not all that bad..
If you're looking for a smaller family dog that is great with kids I recommend a pembroke welsh corgi. I've had 3 and they are great with kids, super smart and easy to train. They are loyal and loving and get along great with other dogs too!
I am in love with all animals especially all dogs. But I have never met a min pin that wasn't an annoying butt.
It's like they know they could have been a Doberman and they are angry that they are in a tiny little body.
With kids around I personally would not get a min pin. I have a boxer, a lab and a terrier. I'm not the type to be against dogs at all. I would just look into the temperament of the type of dog and if they are usually kid friendly.
While it's mostly about training and the individual dog it's also important for you to look at the breed.
That will have to be a dog I get when I'm OLD lol
Hmmm. I want a small dog. I'll keep searching for something that will be ok around DD.
Yes. They are definitely a big dog in a tiny body lol. Less happy than other small dogs can be. They do need the same level of training lol. They're very smart and can get into trouble if they aren't trained and given enough exercise. I wouldn't suggest such a small dog with little kids around. Maybe just a pincher which is a bit bigger/more robust but nowhere near Doberman size. (There are three sizes miniature pincher, pincher, and Doberman) they are destiny breeds but are very similar temperament wise.
I love dogs and have 3 of my own. (Chihuahua, german shepherd mix, and a hound mix). I've known a few min pins and they are all terrors. Adorable, but psycho. They make my chihuahua seem like an angel (which he isn't). ? All the pugs I've known have been pretty chill...have you considered them? Or maybe just go meet small mixed breeds at shelters and rescues and find one with a personality that works for you. Good luck!!
