Is this considered a fever? Under the armpit temp. DD is 10 months now. This would be the first. I gave her a bath to see if that would help lower her temp.

It's a low temp. Just keep an eye on her and see if there seems to be anything else bothering her. I believe a bath is no longer recommended to lower temp but don't quote me on that.

100.4 is considered a fever. But she's close enough to say she has one

I would consider it a low-grade fever. Have you given any meds to see if it brings it down? Or just take everything off and leave her in a diaper and check again in 30min. Also a cool rag on the head and back neck should help too.

At that age they say 103 is a high fever. But just to be safe I would do the things i suggested in my other comment.

She just feels hot and has been groggy. She's on her 4th nap already.

When she woke up from her nap earlier she was sweating. So I stripped her down to her diaper and let her play. She started acting needy and whiny so I took her temp. I have baby Tylenol and ibuprofen... wanted to see if a bath helped before meds
RayOfMySunShine·
Which is better? Tylenol or ibuprofen?

A fever that low doesn't need to be medicated. Let it do its job and give baby lots of love :) hope she feels better soon!!

Don't you add one degree to an underarm temp though? So it's actually a 101.3 degree fever? Or am I totally wrong?

I was told 100.4 was the threshold for infants under 6 months. After 6 months it goes to 101.1. I agree with pp, that a temp of 100 is low grade and doesn't need meds but if you are taking her temp under her arm, her temp could be quite a bit higher:/
I would recommend meds if it exceeds 101.5. Alternate ibuprofen and Tylenol every 4 hours until her fever is under control.

I ended up giving her a frozen teething toy and a little ibuprofen. She seems to be cooling down. At least now she is playing instead of whining for me. Might actually get some cleaning done now. I was stuck under her while she was napping with my dying phone at 5%. Thanks for the info ladies.
I did do a little research too. Under the arm temperature above 99 is considered a fever. Baths are a temporary fix, but can be helpful. I am hoping it's from teething and not a cold or anything more

I agree with @bebe.

Agreed also with pp. Look for any thing that accompanies the fever, rash? Swelling? Trouble swallowing? A fever alone, at the temp you said is not that concerning at the moment.

I think they say anything over 100.4 is considered a temp. I consider 99 and above a low temp though. Tylenol and Motrin both will work fine. Motrin seemed to help bring my dds fever down better though and it also lasts longer which helped during the night. I was told not to give a bath when there's a fever because they can easily get chilled which will raise the temperature. Just give medicine and keep them hydrated.
Oh also I believe anything over 102 will not be from teething. So if it's under 102 and she has no other symptoms it's probably from teething.
