I'm working for the wrong company ? I don't get Columbus Day as a paid holiday.
What we were taught in school is what should have really happened. Natives and pilgrims feasting together. Giving thanks for the help received farming, gathering and storing the harvest for the coming winter.
Oh lol I had an ex that called me vnasty ?would have been a funny coincidence. But I think she was talking about Iwanttobelieve
? @mommyness
And vnasty is your name Vanessa??? Lol
I've seen others on here! I'm Diné. Well part lol. What tribe are you?
And I used to be very anti thanksgiving... I did get in arguments at school about it too because my dad is 100% and we were taught on what really happened when we were young. He's very proud and kinda racist. I'm amazed he stayed with my mom lol
I wouldn't expect the holiday to be cancelled. But renaming it seems reasonable. 'A day of Thanksgiving' was to celebrate the massacre. I like Harvest day or Harvest Feast seems suitable and less offensive. I agree with being thankful. I believe we all should thank our creator and be thankful for what we have. I'm half Native American but I do get sad about history around the holidays.
I'm 100% Native American & I'm glad some ppl do know the real story of "thanksgiving". When I was growing up everyone always asked do you celebrate thanksgiving & I've always said no sh!t lol but we celebrate it as Harvest Day. Because even before those ppl came & did what they did to us we've always celebrated harvest day. So no matter what we celebrate it to be thankful for everything we have/everyone in our lives. Always be thankful no matter the day/holiday is. ?
I think it's important to know the history behind it, and the schools in my area do teach it, as a part of history class. I assume maybe they don't in other areas of the country since a lot of people don't seem to know. I like what thanksgiving stands for, but not the actual historical events. Thanksgiving is about being thankful for what we have and sharing our thanks with our families. I do think the Native Americans should be thanked and I feel that this holiday should be about thanking them too. I think we should teach our children how much the natives did for the settlers but we should also teach the really horrible things the settlers did in return. They didn't get the respect and thanks they deserved back then, so thanksgiving in modern day should also be about making sure they get the thanks now. Idk, I may have a weird view on it, since I'm from Australia, but I do live in the USA and I loved the family aspect of the holiday.
I've always wondered why we still call it thanksgiving.... Celebrating massacres... Where are the offended people on this??? Lol so worried about POC and transgender restrooms?
The real history. ... not pilgrims and natives sitting at a big table enjoying a huge feast.
On a serious note, I believe veterans should have it as a paid day off. But why would everyone else get the luxury, as if we served our country. I don't get why we have Columbus, presidents and MLKJ days off (government holidays as I see them)... kids should be attending school on these days learning or reciting what they have learned about these days. But sure let's have them take a day, to play, not learn. Any way.... I should be working right now lol
