Child Abandonment?
Hex has sole custody and SS was literally dropped on our doorstep a few days ago.

Hex didn't even bother to show up and neither did her family so we ended up getting temporary sole physical and legal custody of SS. We can't take him out of the county though.
Hex's mom called Mil last night threatening her. She also said she will fight us for 50/50 custody of SS and that she was sending family members to attest to Hex's wonderful parenting skills. Maybe she realized Hex is the one who needs to do all of that and not her.
No contact from Hex yet other than her "I'll get a lawyer" text. She did text Mil asking if we were really filing and said this all sucks. Yeah it does suck and if she had been more willing to co-parent with us in the first place then none of us would even be in this mess.
The next court date is in October. The judge said that our usual judge may change the custody agreement again then. What are the chances of that happening? Hex doesn't even live here and refuses to move back. If she wanted summers and holidays it wouldn't be be such a problem but she doesn't even have a stable place to live.

We should've filed for custody before she did since she wasn't even living here... She was going to college down south and I believe that she was living in a dormitory. We should have done a lot of things but there's nothing that we can do to change that now. All I can say is that we felt as though father's usually get screwed-over and we didn't want to be in the middle of a bitter court battle with her when we'd probably lose anyway. I know this isn't always the case it's just how we felt.
We called the police on her when she came and tried to take him one night. She was pounding and kicking on our door screaming that she's his mother and can have him whenever she wants. The police showed her that SS was okay and then made her leave and told us to file for custody the following Monday. We didn't keep him out of daycare and she took him from there and filed. That was in June. The police said that there wasn't anything that we could do once she took him except wait for our hearing in December as there wasn't an established custody agreement.
Because we're stupid. We know now that we should've filed way back then.
I have no idea why. It seems like she's just trying to rack up court bills for us.
Why did HEX mom threaten MIL if she gave you your ss back?? She's crazy too..
