Umbilical hernia

Hi ladies, I had my baby on October 25/14 at 33 weeks ... And now she has an umbilical hernia... Has any of your lo's have had this? What did they do about it? She has a doctors appointment tomorrow so I'm going to address it .. I'm just worried about it!

My 28 weeker has one. When he got released, they just told me to make sure it doesn't seem to hurt him when I push on it and that it doesn't discolor. And that usually they go away on their own by about age 2.

Most self resolve...my coworkers baby just had one in may and it is starting to go down, it was really large and they thought they would need to do surgery but it is starting to go down on its own and they told her it should close by the age of 2...until then, they just want to wait unless it gets worse

My 27 weeker has bilateral inguinal hernias as well as an umbilical, hernia. Unfortunately they wouldn't let us go home until the inguinal's were repaired, so we had them do the umbilical while he was under. From what I understand, they sometimes resolve themselves, otherwise they will need tube done after age 1 or 2. I had a girlfriend who had one and it gave her a really big "outie" belly button and she was subconscious about it all her life until she had it repaired. Hopefully your little ladies resolves itself!!!

My baby was born at 34 weeks and had a hernia we had it looked at and the doctor told us that as she gets bigger it will go away. We were also told if my any chance it wasn't gone by the time she is 5 then the would do something about it then. She is now 11 months actual and her hernia is just about gone.

I wouldn't worry about it unless it is hurting her.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. My niece has one and it doesn't hurt her in any way. The doctor told my sister that she can get it fixed when she's older if it doesn't go away on it's own. They weren't overly concerned about it.
