thoughts

My cousin told me how her sons teacher told his class that santa died and all the kids were upset. She had to explain that santa wasn't real but a magical make believe being. He wasnt upset when she explained to him what Santa was. She was super pissed though at the teacher. Do you think the teacher was in the wrong? I do. I think telling a group of 8-9 year olds that is absolutely wrong! My kids aren't school age yet, but I'd probably say something to the teacher. Idk bc I haven't been in that situation before though. What do you think? Should she say something to the teacher or principal? He was crying and asking how Santa died.. ? it was sad.

Yeah, the kids are a little old, but why the hell would she say Santa died?? Like I just can't see any good intentions behind that

I think there is a more appropriate way to explain it rather than saying Santa died.

I believe in Santa, I believe there is a little Santa in everyone. The spirit of giving is Santa.

So 9 is "too old" for Santa but they're "children! For goodness sake!" when the topic is about a 16 year old dating, or a 13 year old babysitting, or anything else that would imply a needed level of maturity.

It can be one or the other but not both, folks.

Why is 10 too old to believe in the magic of Santa?? Santa isn't just a round man who gives presents, he stands for something.. He symbolizes kindness, generosity, and love.. 10 is definitely not too old for that lesson..

That's the problem; saying CHILDREN are a little old. As a society we do not allow them to be kids. What is wrong with staying out of it as a teacher. If she heard the convo between kids I would have said "that's enough. Let's get back on task". I would have never interjected myself in that talk bc it isn't my place as their teacher to give my personal opinion. I have this issue with high schoolers and politics. I refuse to give my opinions bc I am of "higjer authority" of them and do not want to rub off on an inpressionable child.

@op it sounds like a child asked about it and she didn't know how to answer. I think it was a sticky situation to begin with. Had she said "Oh he's definitely real." Some other kid who's parents have already fussed up would have ruined it anyways. I highly doubt that she just hates children having fun and intended to ruin their childhood and brought the topic up herself.

It's not her place to say anything nor decide when the proper age is too old to believe in santa. Its the parents decision

I'm not raising my son to believe in Santa. It's just not for us. And before anyone say they feel sad for my son save it. He'll be fine trust me. But that doesn't give me the right to go around telling kids he's not real. I don't think it was her place at all to say this to the kids. No matter how old they are. This is something that should be left to the parents. But I do wonder if it's really true she said he's dead. Sounds way too harsh for a teacher to say.

She didn't say he died his teacher told the class he died!! She explained he wasntvreal and couldn't really die.... The teacher had no right to say anything to them.

I believed in Santa until I was about ten. But my dad told me Santa wasnt real not the teacher. And he didn't say he died. I mean 8-9 year olds are still in elementary school.. Like grade 3-4... I don't think it too old to believe in Santa and I absolutely believe it was unnecessary to say he died. Weather or not you want your child to believe would you seriously tell a group of kids that Santa died and break their hearts?? I'm sure that all those kids were sad. I mean he came home crying.. How is that ok bc you think its too old or bc you don't believe kids should grow up believing in Santa?

Who cares whether they're 9 and still believe. No one's business outside that child's family. And dear gawd.... Saying Santa isn't real is one thing. The teacher telling kids that he freaking DIED is way over the line. Totally inappropriate imo.

Theyre old for Santa, but why say he died?... She was a little too dramatic with her explanation in my opinion.

I'm of the mind that it's not others responsibility to keep up your (general) lies. Don't want kids being upset about "finding out" the truth about something, don't lie to them to begin with. Pretty simple.,

She explained that he was mythical yet he died??? Seems like she's having trouble explaining things. How can someone that isn't really die?

My cousin was 13 when my sister, who is younger than her, told her Santa wasn't real. She was heartbroken, and embarrassed that someone younger than her knew Santa wasn't real and she didn't. I feel like 9 years old is way too old to believe in Santa. There's a line between "magic" and plain deceit, to kids I think. My cousin was so mad that her mom and dad kept it up that long, because she looked stupid in front of the whole family when she was crying that Santa wasn't real.

ETA: I feel like it was inappropriate to make up a story that he died, if a child asked about Santa, she could have come up with something way better than he just died.

I would be mad, only if my child told me that she/he was upset about it.

To me, its up to the individual child to come to the conclusion themselves not for anyone to do so.

I believed in Santa till I was 10 ??

My grandma ruined it for me, lol.

Нравится Ответить

I would be pretty livid. That is not the teachers place to say Santa is not real. I usually let small things at school go, but if it were one of my kids teachers, I would let them know how I felt about it.

Нравится Ответить

That wasn't her place at all. If she doesn't think Santa should be taught to her own kids, fine. But don't ruin it for other children. Totally inappropriate to say he died too, that's too far.

Нравится Ответить

I mean, it is kinda weird to discuss. He died? Wtf? That is a bit old to believe in Santa, but it's still not her place to discuss it with the kids.

Нравится Ответить

I personally don't think kids should grow up thinking Santa is real

Нравится Ответить

That sounds messed up. I would be upset if a teacher or anyone said that to my child.

Нравится Ответить

Aww even if it is a little "old" it's still not very nice. There might still be some kids who fully believe and get excited and just had their hearts broken ?

90% is not a B

What is with this? I'm really annoyed by it. Can someone explain WHY some teachers structure their grading this way? I think it's BS.

For us, you had to have a 93% to have an A
squishymommy1 Queen ours is the same way. This is the first year they have letter grades.
This is weird I never got letter grades until college and even then 90% was an A.

Do you really think the way you are raised

Has no impact on when and how you decide to have sex? I read a comment on another thread that really rubbed me the wrong way. Something about how teens have sex and there's just no stopping it no matter how you raise them.

Abstinence isn't the only way to stay away from pregnancy and std's
My parents were very relaxed with me but me as a person I didn't feel I was
Hmmm...I was opposite. I wasn't much of anything in high school....I drank, skipped school, and didn't have
