weight for 6 month old

Yesterday I had a wic appt for dd2. She is 6 1/2 months and weighs 13 lbs. Is this too big? They told me she was over weight! Her pedi had me supplement bc she wasn't gaining anything. She had only gained 4oz in a month and a half. Now wic is saying she's too big for her age... Are they right??

Pp they were certain she was over weight. We talked to a lc(lactation consultant) and she told her the same thing.

Maybe they got confused and said overweight insted of underweight

My obstetrician and our pediatrician have told me not to listen to any of the criticisms from WIC because they aren't qualified to determine if something is wrong. Plus they like to criticize everyone for everything. When I was pregnant with my daughter I was about 26 weeks and had gained 10 pounds. My dr told me I was right on track but the people at wic told me I should either not be gaining weight or be losing weight because according to them I'm morbidly obese. They also told me I shouldn't eat cereal or drink juice. To which I replied "you know what's on a wic check right?" They ignored me. Anyway, fast forward to this pregnancy. I am 20 weeks and so far I have lost 5 pounds. You would think they would be happy. Nope, now they are telling me I need to gain weight. ? I started both pregnancies at approximately the same weight

Jessica they know her correct age... She's not preemie so I'm not sure what that means... Her pedi said she was perfectly fine and healthy. She is not underweight.

Me too pp. But I guess according to their chart she's over weight.. I'm not sure how to read the chart so I don't know if it has to do with her height as well. They didn't say.

My 7 month old weighs almost 20 pounds and WIC has never told me he is overweight neither has his ped. He's perfectly healthy and a normal size for his age. 13 pounds seems underweight for me. Are you sure they knew her correct age?

That's small for six months. I'm confused how they could think that is overweight.

My son was 14lbs at 3 weeks old. ?

My daughter was 14 pounds at a year old, but she's a very small child. Your baby sounds like they're a great size. I think it's too early for them to see a real growth problem. Every child has their own growth curve, which can be hard to determine if they're under a year

Your daughter is tiny. Her weight is between 5 and 10th percentile. Show them the chart I posted below (cdc website and world health org) and ask them to explain how she is overweight

I wouldn't be taking my baby back to a place that is clearly so clueless on the average baby weight.. over here we have a book that we take when our baby gets weighed, they then plot their weight on the chart, it is a simple system and you can clearly see if your baby is following their regular pattern or dropping off, etc, the fact that where you have been seem to have such little knowledge is worrying and could actually be dangerous!

@ 6 months my LO was 14lbs I think.

It's not the weight that you should look at, look at the growth chart.

My LO gains roughly 2lbs a month her growth chart is steady and she's in the 50 percentile.

Considering my son was like 22 pounds at 6 months, no. Lol

Um my 4 month old is 20 pounds. He's 95-97th percentile in height and weight

Have you looked at the growth charts? They may be concerned if her length is say 20th percentile and weight is 60th or something. Generally length and weight percentiles are similar. I don't know how much of a gap is normal.

Here are the charts for length and weight

I didn't think she was either. Its been bugging me so bad! ? maybe too much. I'm just like she's tiny to me. Her pedi says she's perfectly fine and just small so when they said she was over weight I was like no way.

Eta: all my kids are small! My preemie is 2 now but only weighs 27lbs. They said she was on the small side and to give her more! She eats everything all day long plus her meals and sometimes even mine! Lol

She's on the petite side. Dd2 is 5.5 months and weighs around 16lbs.

My son is almost 14lbs at 2 months. There's no way she's overweight

Whaaat? My 3mo son is almost 13 lbs. If you daughter is overweight what is my son?!?

deleted-user

That's very light for 6 months. Both my kids were chunks and weighted 14 pounds at 2 months. At 6 months they were about 22 pounds.

That's not even close to being overweight at 6 months. I would even say it's on the smaller side.

Baby won't bear weight on leg

Baby won't bear weight on leg I have a walking 10 month old and she has been extra fussy yesterday and today. Today I noticed she didn't really want to crawl, she would just cry until I came and picked her up. After I fed her, I tried setting her down to play with her big sister and she just started crying and wouldn't put any weight on her left leg. She will put weight down on her right leg but then just cries until you pick her back up. I thought maybe she just didn't want to be put down (as baby's often do). I tried a few more times over the next 30 minutes and she still won't put any weight on it. I had a meeting (I work from home), so I took her upstairs to my husband. She is now playing with her siblings and happy, but he text me (from upstairs) and says she still won't put weight on it. She is just sitting there playing.
