This post just made me get up and shampoo my carpet! I haven't done it since I moved into my new place, and it's been almost 8 months now. Thank goodness for this shampoo attachment on my Kirby!

I vacuum daily and have them professionally cleaned 2x per year (after winter is over to start spring cleaning and after summer is over to get out all the beach sand.)

Just moved into a new house. Watching my friends 2 dogs who are most definitely NOT house trained ?. So once the dogs are gone, we will be emptying every room and cleaning the carpets. I have 2 dogs of my own that shed like crazy so I try to vacuum everyday to keep up with the dog hair. I like to clean the carpets every couple of months unless the dogs have an accident or something is spilled.

We own a shampooer. The Kirby guy came to our house and suckered my husband into buying the vacuum and shampoo attachments.

@ail I rent one from Home Depot. It's pretty inexpensive and is what professionals use. I have a shampooer at home but I feel like it doesn't clean as well.

When you guys shampoo your carpets do you hire someone to do it? Rent a shampooer, or own one?

I would every 6 months if I could but the only carpet we have that needs to be cleaned is our 2 flights of stairs and that's a hassle to get clean.

I like to shampoo twice a month but here lately it's been once a month. My children and husband like to keep me on my toes by tracking in dirt.

Usually 2X a year, but it's been neglected due to being so sick early this pregnancy. It's happening this month though while I still can, physically speaking.

I shampoo our living room once a month in afraid of what it'll look like if I wait longer than a month between our dog, toddler and my husband who likes to wear his boots on the carpet. We also rent.

Every 3 months. Only have carpet in the bedrooms but they are always much dirtier than the naked eye can see. We don't wear shoes inside either !

1-2 times per year. My husband and toddler get them so dirty. I can't imagine never cleaning them. ?

I shampoo our living room carpet once a month and I am always so surprised how dirty the water is.

I'd love to rip out our carpets n replace with hardwood floors (the second floor has carpet) but with our ivf expense coming up we have to wait.

We have no carpet in our home I hate it. Dh keeps saying he wants to put carpet in our bedroom and I said hell no unless he wants to vacuum. ?

I vacuum 3-4 times a week, and clean carpets 1-2 times a year. I rent but try to keep the carpets decent. I spread a large fleece blanket over the middle of my living room where my kids play. We don't have food or drinks in the bedrooms, so that carpet is in good condition.

@bmoss thats why i do it often.. Im a complete germaphobe.. And we rent as well so i could careless..lol my honest opinion is this carpet has ran its life span anyway???

We steam clean our carpets once a month, we have 2 dogs and a toddler so we need it lol. I don't like pet hair but I love my dogs so I clean the floors often

This is why only my basement had carpet.

I couldn't stand the dogs having access to the bedrooms. Gross.

Anyways I vacuum a couple times a week and shampoo it maybe once a year. But now that I see every 6 months is okay I'm going to start doing that! I just didn't want to overclean and ruin my carpet!

I seem to be the only one in the house to be able to not spill anything. I vacuum once a day as well but that doesn't help from my child spilling her sippy cup. My SO never takes his damn shoes off even though I tell him to every single day.

If it is: I vacuum just about daily. You're supposed to carpet clean once a year. Fack that. I do it multiple times a year. I need to do it really bad, but I haven't been able to buy the solution I need. Bills and shat are getting in the way ?

I love how clean it gets and then my children ruin it within days. It bugs the hell out of me. When we move I plan to have bedrooms with carpet only.

My husband cleans our carpets twice a month ?

I'm just going to go ahead and do it even though it's only been 3 months lol. I'm OCD as well! Plus we just rent so I'm not worried about the longevity, we only plan on being in our townhouse for another year. I just use a Rug Doctor and they are only $30 to rent at the local grocery.

I use a deep clean carpet cleaner once a month. I love the way it looks and smells afterwards. I'm a little OCD though.

I do ours once a month bc of my middle daughter.. And im just in habit of doing it so i try to keep the same schedule??

We rent so I don't. I'm not gonna spend money on something that isn't technically ours.

On average, a professional cleaning every 9-12 months is a good idea when you have children. A home with indoor pets should have the carpet professionally cleaned every 6 to 12 months.

I do it once a month because I feel like it needs it. I hate our carpet anyway. It's rough and ugly so if I shorten it's lifespan then great because I want it replaced anyway lol I also vacuum everyday as well.

Over cleaning will shorten the lifespan of the carpet, but since you're renting it will probably be replaced when you move out anyway. We usually do ours twice a year.
