As long as u dont mind giving injections (thats if u r doing progesterone injections) daily for 10 wks then you'll b fine. They're intramuscular injections so they can b a pain in the butt literally. Lol

OP don't feel bad if the compensation is a motivator for you! I wouldn't have done a surrogacy without compensation but I also wouldn't do it JUST for the compensation. So the compensation was important for me as well.

And you can have debt. Like pp mentioned the FDA regulates you can't be on government assistance. As long as you don't RELY on the surrogacy payments then you're great. You seem like a fine candidate in that respect.

Thank you all for the input. It wouldn't just be for the compensation. I only got those numbers based off what the agency sent me. My debts are my student loans to which it would be going towards. I already have a great paying job just those dang college loans that I would love to pay off. I will definitely join that Facebook group pp! I think it's awesome you used your own eggs.

Chelsea n another pp is right about the compensation. My friend is getting around that amount too. It also took about a yr n a half from filling out the application to embryo transfer.

I was a gestational surrogate for a couple in Spain.

We lost the embryo about a week after implantation. It kinda hit hard for all of us since it was their last one. So I decided to hold off on being a surrogate for a few years.

I agree with pp, the amount of money is a lot but not how much you are saying. My compensation would be around 30-35k and that's only because they wanted ALL tests done. With twins it would be more but not much. I spent 2 years in the process before calling it quits.

ETA, I second everything pp mentioned. Especially with using an agency. I actually applied to different agencies but only felt fully comfortable with just one.

On the other hand, when I called it quits, my case worker did mention that compensation was going up. Lol

I think one of the conditions is to be financially stable (making enough money/no debts), to make sure that the person doesn't do it only for the money, that's what I read, I'm not a 100% sure though

I'm a 2x surrogate. I'm actually a traditional surrogate (my own eggs) but that's increasingly rare nowadays.

Surrogacy is by far the best thing I've ever done. The joy of watching my IFs (intended fathers) meet their daughters for the first time literally can't be beat. Both couples send me pictures and occasional updates on the girls and every time I see an update it makes my day knowing how loved those girls are.

A few things. Your compensation expectations are a bit high. The highest paid surros are CA surros and generally first timers get closer to 35k base comp. You do get some miscellaneous fees but all together around 40k, probably. There may be some less reputable agencies offering very high comp but please keep in mind most intended parents have already spent ridiculous amounts of money on trying to conceive and many take out second mortgages and save for YEARS to even begin to afford using a surrogate. Fist time surrogates outside of CA typically get 25-30k base compensation.

I recommend using an agency your first time UNLESS you are willing to do incredibly thorough research to protect yourself and your IPs. There are a LOT of moving parts to surrogacy and many get themselves into bad situations by cutting corners. You also need to research your state laws as surrogacy isn't legal everywhere and in some states only un-comped surrogacy is allowed.

There's a few surrogate moms pages on Facebook. The "Surrogate Moms" page is very informative and also very straightforward. It's kind of like the R&R of the surrogates world, so I'd recommend joining that one to get a gist of surrogacy.

If you have any specific questions feel free! Please keep in mind there are requirements to become a surrogate and it's not a quick process at all. Often it may take two years to even complete a journey (from application phase to birth) and there is a LOT of waiting in surrogacy.

Op, my friend n I r from Cali. She's getting paid an avg of $3500/month from the IP. Thats aside from the clothes, meds, daycare, misc things they also pay for on top of her monthly pay.

Thanks guys I'm definitely doing my research on it. In the US the average pay for a surrogate is around $50,000-$75,000. That's crazy to me that it's illegal for surrogates to be compensated in Canada and Australia!

@jay its the same in Australia. It's ridiculous. Good on you OP if you do it. There are so many deserving families out there that can't conceive and services like this help so much. Best of luck x

I'm not sure what the law is where you are but here in Canada it is against the law to accept any money for profit to be a surrogate. You can only have them give you money to pay for vitamins, doctors appointments, food, etc.

Having done ivf, I know there is a need for it. If you have specific questions, maybe post them in the ivf /assisted conception group. There are a few surrogates that hang out in there and a few couples using surrogates.

I'm not but have gone thru ivf multiple times n have a close gf that is a surrogate for a couple from China. Shes doing it for the same reasons u r. She even offered to carry for me which is so selfless n kind of her to offer.

I think there is a user on here who has been a surrogate. Maybe she'll see this and post. I can't remember her name at the moment
