Weird question
Ok so I have my annual with my OBGYN tomorrow. Getting a Pap smear and all. As I recall in the past u are not supposed to have sex within 24 hours of the appt. is that right?!?! They didn't say anything when I made the appt but I vaguely remember them saying that years ago!!!

i have never heard that...definitely didn't follow that for my pap last year... ? didn't have any problems or have the doc say anything though!

Never heard of that either.

I've never heard of that, but I probably wouldn't wanna have sex before an appointment anyway ??♀️

Yea I guess it's something from the old days lol. Maybe I'll just tell my husband that tonight so I can just not be bothered lol

I've always followed that rule. I thought no sex or douches 24 hours before.
Ss3mom·
Yea pp I thought the same thing. Like no sex or tampons. I thought nothing in the vagina 24 hours prior to Pap smears lol
deleted-user·
It's helpful, so there isn't semen lingering.
Ss3mom·
So @zombie is it true?? My hubby's gonna be upset lol
deleted-user·
Yes, my doctor always says no sex for 24 hours before.

I just googled it and it does say u shouldn't have sex or anything in your vagina 24 hours before a Pap smear!! It can mask signs of abnormal results
deleted-user·
We all have been enlightened and now you have a good say no to sex
Ss3mom·
Lol I told my husband and his reply was well u can go down on me lol!!! He cracks my up!!!
deleted-user·
never heard of that either
deleted-user·
@ss3 sounds like what my husband would say. Which I wouldn't mind doing either ?

I was never told that but I used that as my excuse a few weeks ago. My husband got in the shower with me and I was like no man I just wanna wash my hair in peace so I told him I couldn't have sex since I was about to go to my appt. I had no idea that was actually a thing! ??
Ss3mom·
It's true guys!!! Dr google says it can mask abnormal cells cause the test to be inaccurate!!! I knew I wasn't just making that up. I heard it years ago but wasn't sure it was still true but it is!!! Bj it is I guess lol
deleted-user·
I would guess they say that only so there's no goo left over ? or signs of irritation that might make it look like something else?
Ss3mom·
Yea I guess pp. but like I said earlier it can alter the test results giving false results

If a pap smear is anything like a cervical smear test in the UK, I always get a leaflet in my reminder letter saying sex is ok beforehand but condoms are not.
I always thought it was bizarre that a few sperm weren't an issue but a condom was, although I guess it's to do with the spermicide and/or lubricant on there.

You're not supposed to have anything in the vagina for about 24-48 hours before. It can disturb or remove cervical cells that they want to scrape during the pap and possibly abnormalities could be missed

I had two abnormal paps when I forgot and had sex the day prior. Hold off if you can.
Ss3mom·
Yea pp I'm definitely not DTD tonight!!! I don't want anything to make the test inaccurate

Ladies after all that I didn't even get a Pap
Smear!!! They only do them every 3-5 years!!! Wtf
