I got one of these calls last week! I laughed at the guy and hung up. Haven't heard anything soon.

We get those too. There is one that says you need to call back immediately to get your case number and the badge number of the agent assigned to your case. This is the last attempt to reach you. If you don't call back all I can say is well good luck.

I just like to mess with calls like that.

Yup happened to me! Except I knew enough to just keep asking questions until he got frustrated and hung up.

Oh yea I got an f you from one of them there. I called him every name in the book for cheating people out of their hard earned money. I told the "boss" I reported him to my local police and the IRS and he hung up so quick. The phone number was from Alabama but after talking to one guy there he told me they weren't in the US. The whole situation got me so upset. I hate that these scammers have my full name phone number and address. It's kind of scary to think about it

I got one of these calls about a year ago. He told me I owed money and if I didn't pay, I'd get arrested. He kept asking for my address or something, and I kept saying I wouldn't give it to him until he gave me some kind of identification. We went back and forth with this several times until he said " f*** you" and hung up. Piece of s*** .

I work im a bank and that one is unfortunately common. Other common scams are:

- call to grandparent or older relative saying hi, it's me how are you. Grandparent will place as grandchild thinking it's their voice. Then say their car broke down or arrested and need money sent

- hack email (usually hotmail) and go through messages and write to people by responding to messages asking for money. As a banker I received these emails from scammers pretending to be my clients at least 3 times. They start with questions then ask for money. I've known every time it was a scam though

- send cheque for item or rental posted online for too much and ask you to send the difference back. Cheque eventually bounces.

- Do reno for older person and keep needing money for new problem. They make a mess and don't actually do much work. Often they come into the bank with the person

I know right. I told the guy to get a real job so his family could actually be proud of him instead of scamming people out of money. What a freaking loser. It's sad that some people actually fall for it. So disgusting

Happened to my aunt too!! They said if she didn't pay in full that they would seize her house and car and we just laughed cuz my aunt does NOT have a house ?

It's crazy. Maybe I'm just naive I asked the guy how he sleeps at night knowing he's stealing from hard working innocent people. He actually tried to make me feel bad for him because his 2 options in life are stealing or killing people for money. Those were his words exactly. Like wtf I'm gonna feel bad for u after u tried to rob me blind. Cry me a river

Lol that happened to my husband 2 wks ago the man had a heavy accent saying the same thing to my husband. I searched the number and it said it was a scam.

I told the man" listen you're an assshole trying to scam people the irs doesn't call you if you owe money the irs will never call they send letters if they need to contact you."I told him I was contacting the police & he hung up real quick?

I had a phone call not too long ago from the "IRS" for my dad, saying they were going to charge him with treason or something similar if he didn't return their phone call in 24 hours?

And I should clarify they will email attorneys, but not a tax payer and much less to initiate collection efforts.

I deal with the IRS almost daily. It's really annoying sometimes that it feels like they're stuck in the technology age of 1984, but it's nice that my clients know that the can rely on the fact that calls or emails to collect from the IRS aren't legitimate.

No I had no idea the IRS wouldn't call u because I've never had any issues. I called the police department and he told me that. I just called them back and gave them a piece of my mind. I've never had this happen before. I was literally in tears thinking I was gonna get arrested. This is how much I know about tax issues. Ugh now I'm just so pissed off. Luckily I called my husband and told him and he took care of it. But wtf these people are freaking scumbags

I know you probably know this but the IRS will never initiate a call or email, much less for collections. They only paper mail. So any calls or emails purporting to be the IRS are fake.

Also, there's no such thing as going to jail for owning a debt. There is no debtor's prison (contrary to what many collection agents may tell you). The only thing you can go to jail for is not filing out a financial disclosure statement once you're sued. The financial statement is ordered from the court to be filed out, so failure to fill it out will result in contempt of court for failing to abide to that court order, therefore a bench warrant will result. So you can go to jail for failure to abide to the court order of filling out the financial statement, not for owing the debt.

Ugh that's ridiculous! People are always out trying to scam others. When my grandma was alive she had this guy calling and saying she owed money (he called constantly) and she almost paid the guy. Luckily she told my mom and my mom told my brother, he's a police officer. My brother decided to go visit my grandma and wait for this guys call. He set him straight and he never called back again
