My lo is 4 days old and ebf. He had a hard time latching to the right side so I've been using the nipple shield the hospital gave me. He latched on just fine to the left side. However today it's like my nipples have gone completely flat and now I have to use the shield on both sides. I have an appointment with a lactation specialist next week. Just curious if this has happened to anyone else?

I had flat nipples, through using the shield and pumping I was able to bring them out enough that he can now latch without.

I'm having the exact same problem, my little dude was bottle fed for five days because he was in the NICU and I was recovering from emergency c section. I ebf but have to use the shiled to do so. I was also told I have flat nipples.

Well I had this issue with both right after I had my first son. I tried to transition him and get a good latch after the hospital but he got soused to the shield he would always let go until I put it back on. Try to get some proffesional help and be patient with yourself and your baby.

I used one until she was 11 weeks. Try to offer without the shield first then if ur lo gets frustrated offer with the shield. When she finally did latch without the shield it took her a couple of days without latching unlatching and having to put the shield back on.
It takes time and patience. Once you get farther along in breastfeeding and the older they get they know what they are there to do and it seems a little easier.

Try different positions that's what helped me. He got the hang of where the milk duct was. And I usually make the nipple hard before inserting cuz It help guild it in.
