horrible leg cramps. help!

horrible leg cramps. help!

Every morning without fail I wake up with horrible Charlie horse cramps in both my legs. I've tried stretching before bed, bananas, ect. Please help. They are incredibly painful and often wake me up in the middle of the night. P.s. I'm 21w 7d and this has been going on for a few weeks.

Those cramps are likely not sciatic pains. Sciatica is a stabbing, burning nerve pain that sharply originates in your buttcheek and may extend down your leg on the affected side.

Those charlie horse cramps are very common in pregnancy. It may seem counterintuitive, but extending your leg completely straight and flexing your foot, pointing your toes at the ceiling or up towards your face, should relieve it. Some theories do suggest magnesium deficiency too.

I had terrible leg cramps after driving for a long time. So maybe your not flat enough? Maybe try sleeping more on your left side or put a pillow on half of the small of your back so your tilted on your side. The weight of the baby can push down on your back and restrict blood to your bottom half

Make sure you're hydrated as well

Thank you!! Before I got pregnant I would get them every once in a while. But now, omg every night! I sleep with a body pillow behind me and cuddle a pillow too. My hubby complaints that I've added "another person to the bed, but not in a fun way" lol I've noticed that flexing my foot helps a little with the pain.

If you do not have high blood pressure or a problem with water retention, try a shot of pickle juice before bed. Push the fluids too.

If you feel one coming on, try to hop out of bed and squat down slowly. This will help prevent it from balling up. Even if it does start to ball up, if you can squat, it will help stretch it out and it shouldn't bother you as bad throughout the day.
