He was just sitting up and I looked up for one measly second and he fell back and hit his head on a dresser. I have just never heard him cry so hard but I think it was more the shock of it. After he stopped crying he acted normal though so I didn't worry too much.

Neurologist here: difficulty staying awake, difficulty breathing, lethargy, nausea and or vomiting, changes in behavior, non reactive pupils, fluid coming from the ears, bruising around eyes or ears and of course unconscious are all ER worthy.
External head injuries (cuts) bleed a lot so unless paired with one of the other symptoms, clean the would and monitor at home.

Check their pupils for reactiveness to light. And what had already been said.

When I called for a fall they said if they act different or the area swells an inch high or more.

Or puking. If they get nauseous after they hit their head or have Vision problems.

If the child's behavior changes in any way, lethargy stops suddenly crying, etc then it's cause for concern.

If There lethargic, if the crying lasts longer then when the fall happens, if they stop eating.

A mom told me once that if the bump comes out of their head, they're fine but if the bump indents their head, they need to be taken in.
