What would you say?

Ok so I'm noticing on Facebook a friend is almost due with her baby. Well she went in for an induction yesterday because "the doctors said she could" well turns out the hospital started to induce her at 39 weeks but apparently she's actually 38 and 4 days. So they sent her home. While they were there though her water broke. So she is going Monday to be induced again at a different hospital. I'm not sure if I should tell her something or not or what I would even say. Another lady already commented saying a lot of information but she just says she wants her out because she's in pain. Wouldn't her water being broke for over three days raise the chance of infection though? Should I say something or no?

Based on the reading I've done, it's usually 24 hours for hospital policy (including my hospital), but medical resources tend to say 48-72 hours is generally fine but puts mother at risk for infection.

My water broke and I was immediately admitted. I wasn't dilated or having contractions or in labor at all, but they kept me there. My situation might be different because I had twins, but I guess it all depends where you live. I think there was a user on here who was sent home with waters broken and was in labor for 70 hours, she's not in America though, I think it was a girl named Emily. Hopefully all will be ok with your friend and her baby. I'd probably tell her to follow her gut and go get a second opinion.

Uhm... Hospitals will send you home after your water has broken if you haven't started other labour signs yet.... And I've never heard of this 24 hour thing. Once upon a time before caesareans were all the rage, people could be in labour for days.....

Maybe I'm horribly misinformed, or things are drastically different on my northern side of the border..

My sister's water was leaking for a while. Her doctor wasn't around and the nurse kept saying it wasn't her water. Well my baby niece was born with infection from water being broken so long. She had to take antibiotics and had a chance of going deaf. She seems ok now, but your friend should be seen as soon as possible.

I checked her posts again last night before I went to bed and she had deleted them all. I really think she was just exaggerating it all.

I don't know why you ladies are saying they wouldn't let her leave if her water broke. It would all depend how dilated and thinned she was. They would most likely advise her to come back to be checked or if contractions got stronger. When my water broke with my son I was 90% thinned out but only 2cms. I was advised to go home and come back if I got really uncomfortable or later in the evening to be checked and monitored again. I would assume it depends on the hospitals protocol.

You don't have to deliver within 24 hours if your water breaks. I had a slow leak over 46 hours and then I was induced. I had to go in for a NST every 12 hours. I was doing good and baby was doing good. My midwife said 48 hours was the maximum, but she only let me go so long since no one was in distress. The OB who had to get the pitocin approved wasn't concerned either. He just made sure that my midwife had the antibiotics hooked up.

Yeah she's lying. No hospital would ever let her leave with her waters broken

Just leave it alone, if she's gonna do these things to her body then so be it. If she has complications it's her own fault.

Good on you though for worrying, but unfortunately it sounds like she has her mind made up.

Where I'm from, if you don't give birth naturally within 24 hours of your water breaking, they will do a c-section. They don't want you going past 24 hours due to the risk of infection.

@regz thank you! The whole way here I was thinking I was being overly paranoid, glad I have this app!!

@alex I'm glad you went in, best of luck !

The craziest thing guys.. I've been having discharge for a couple days but didn't think anything of it... Well I read this post and pp scared me when she said her friend lost a baby due to slow leaking, so I came in to the hospital and now I'm admitted hooked on antibiotics because I was totally leaking amniotic fluid!!!!!

I had a friend lose a baby during a home birth because her water broke and the dr (yes, not midwife) didn't send her to the hospital early enough. She almost died from the infection.

The hospital broke my water during induction and I wasn't progressing and had to have an emergency c section. Something isn't right there.

If water breaks you are supposed to deliver within 24 hours.

A girl in my birth group lost her baby due to a slow leak over days.... So yes it is still bad. I can't imagine ANY hospital sending home a pregnant woman who's water has broken, especially at almost 39 weeks where that's a pretty clear indicator that she's going into labor

But isn't leaking water still kinda bad though?

When I went in for my second delivery, they said I was leaking amniotic fluid but my waters were still intact.

The test strip was positive for a water break, but they could still feel them inside intact.

I don't believe that for a second.

If her water really did break, and they sent her home until Monday, then she needs to find a better hospital anyway.

Doesn't sound like she's telling the whole truth and nothing but the truth. This is my first pregnancy, but my doc has told me like 100 times that if my water breaks I go to hospital immediately.

That's what I was thinking too but she said that the nurses checked it and said it was her water. I wanna hope that's she is just exaggerating. It sounds wrong they would let her leave after that.

Нравится Ответить

Yeah isn't 24 hours and after there's a high infection risk?

Нравится Ответить

Yes she's at a high risk for infection. Normally the hospital would have her on full observation, my hospital wouldn't let me leave once my water broke. Also you have to keep in mind this chick might be exaggerating. I can't think of one hospital labor and delivery that would send a women back home with a bag of broken water, knowing the amount of liability they'd be responsible for.

So her water broke but they let her go home?
