Newborn sleeping position help

Newborn sleeping position help

Long story short. I didn't want to get one of those thick crib bumpers because of the risks with it and so my husband wants to lay our baby in one of those newborn positioner/feeding pillow things to sleep on in the crib so he won't roll. (Sorry I don't know what they are called) because "that's what his sister did with her kids and they are still alive". anyway I was always thought it was nothing in the crib and for them to be on their back but I don't know really because I am a ftm and i just don't know about this stuff. Anyway can someone please give me advice on if it is safe to lay them in it every night and if I should go along and do it or what.

I used to just lay them in their cot.

I have seen what u are talking about and yes u can use them if u feel comfortable about it, honestly I don't c the need for it for ur going to b swaddling/wrapping ur baby at bed time ne way. But it's your choice if u want to use it or not.

Baby will learn to roll in time, baby really needs to sleep flat on back with nothing in the crib as a newborn they won't roll that's a few months in. But yes the feeding pillow is not advised. You are correct flat on back nothing in the crib you can swaddle baby but that's really it

Baby should never sleep on a pillow positioner. They can slip down so their head flops forward and cuts off their airway. Everything I've read and all my health professionals say to lay baby flat on their back with nothing in the cot with them. They also recommend sleep sacks not blankets.

My newborn could roll! She could roll from her stomach to her back and a week later she could roll from her back to her tummy.

Please don't put any pillows or blankets in the crib!! Swaddle early on and sleep baby on back. You'll learn how baby likes to sleep as they grow and can adjust sleeping measures as needed

What scares me about flat on the back is what if they have reflux and throw up while sleeping then they can choke on their own vomit

As a professional nanny before getting pregnant, I can tell you by first hand experience... Some babies sleep better on their tummies! I know it's a huge no no with a lot of people, but honestly when you're dead tired and you notice they actually sleep better on the tummy vs back, don't be afraid to let them sleep that way. Make sure their head is to one side and keep an eye on them until they are able to lift their head and keep their crib clear. I'm probably going to get a lot of negative feedback on this, but trust me. Every baby is different and remember... It's really hard to mess up :) congrats :)

Swaddling helps a lot. Makes them feel more snug in a huge crib :)

@ Ethompkins.

My mom was told to put me on my tummy by her docs and everyone, so she did and I'm still here ? I wasn't sure about all of this sleeping stuff either being a FTM.
