going shopping

Ok. I'm a ftm and am actually going to have to go to Costco tomorrow. I've yet to go shopping with my baby alone. Any tips or tricks? Parking lot safety ...etc

It won't be as hard as you think it will be. :-) trust me.

Tips: I baby wear for convenience. Feed baby before you go in and make sure he/she is dry, then If you have a carrier put baby in and go! My baby boy falls right asleep and stays asleep the whole shopping trip in my moby wrap.

Thanks ladies. It sounds daunting but baby wearing def will help! I've been quite spoiled by harris teeters express lane but I need items in bulk haha

I baby wear but sometimes if she is asleep in carrier I take the stroller and let her stay in it till she wakes then I will throw on the ktan and finish... My white noise sleep sheep is a lifesaver and I never leave home without it!

Feed your baby right before you go (unless you are comfortable enough to shop and nurse). Also, make sure you park close to a buggy corral. That is probably more important when you have multiple children, but trust me it makes it easier and less work if baby is in the car seat vs being worn.

I agree with pp. Feed and change right before you go. I baby wear if i need to get a bunch of things. If I'm just running in i leave her in her seat.

I like the idea of making sure to park close to a cart area that way you can just click baby in car and put away your cart. I can't count how many times i put all my groceries and baby in the car and then had to take baby back out to go put the cart away. Bring a paci if you use one that way if baby gets fussy you can buy yourself a few extra minutes to finish up. If you don't use one I'd bring one anyways just in case. I forgot a paci a few times that now I just have 1 always attached to her carseat.

I am also a FTM and have yet to (and not wanting to) breastfeed in public so I get myself ready then feed my son on one side, change his diaper then feed him on the other side. As soon as he's done the "clock" starts and I make a mad dash to get him in his car seat and get it done as quick as possible lol

Sometimes if she's fussy when shopping I put on a vacuum sound on an app I downloaded. She really likes that.

Like everyone else said definitely feed your little one before going. I always baby wear when I go, because she will be asleep on the car ride there and then I'll pop her in the carrier :) good luck!

This may be a stupid question, but do you guys put on the wrap at home before shopping then drive to the store in it?

Haha I have a moby wrap and during the first step to putting it on, the wrap is so long it touches the floor...Idk if it would be hard to put on in a parking lot haha

My tip would be: enjoy just having one! My toddler and newborn make shopping an event. Don't know how people do it with four or five or eight. A trip to town with just my newborn these days is almost as good as going by myself!

I would put the wrap on before I left the house. Especially since I'm slow as heck putting it on lol usually the meltdown I nearly over by the time I'm ready w this wrap!

It was a success. I put her in the ergo when we got there, she slept the whole time. It took forever but it wasn't near as daunting as I thought it'd be!!! The ergo is amazing. Thanks everyone for your advice!

Omg the first time I took my first baby shopping i was awkward lol but I used a carrier I had for the first time but luckily she stayed asleep so it wasn't too bad. I'm dreading going anywhere with my 2.5 yr old and newborn alone though!

Feed and change baby before leaving! Have extra bottles on hand and a paci! Don't leave baby alone (duh) and it might take longer than expected. Especially if you need to change them or they get fussy while out.
