Donating bone marrow experince
Donating bone marrow experince
If you have donated bone marrow please tell me your experince and how the procedure went. There is an event coming up to donate bone marrow to a local man with cancer. I really want to donate and google can be limited with personal experinces. Anyways, i would really like to donate but im kind of scared! I have donated blood before and it felt awsome knowing it would go to people who need it. So please ladies tell me how it went and what they do. Thank you ?

Are you in cali? Theres one going on for a local cop, they found him a match but are still doing the drive to find matches for others :)
Its painful yes! But worth it

it is one of the most painful things i have done in my life. i was sore for weeks, but it was worth it (obviously).

I did for my little sister, um painful doesn't even begin to cover it. They give you anesthesia and all but the recovery is awful it's pain for weeks I was 18 when I did it so I thought I'd bounce back faster but nope it took like 4 weeks to even feel slightly better but I'm glad I did it

From what I hear it's very painful. I've watched a bone marrow tap and almost passed out just watching

My mum is on the registry, she's never been asked to donate yet either. But she was told that if she did, she'd have to take 2-3 weeks off work after it was done so I'm guessing it would be a little hard caring for children afterwards. But it would be such an amazing thing to do for someone! 2-3 weeks out of your every day life to give somebody something so amazing.

I was looking at the registry site the other day and im thinking of joining but I haven't because im not sure what the donation really entails. I have two small kids so I wasn't sure I could handle the donation part and then caring for my kids after.

If you are a match then you donate at a hospital in the OR you will be given anesthesia and they place a needle in your spine and pelvis to remove the bone marrow

The event is likely to be testing to find a match. I've been on the registry in the U.K. for at least 10 years and never been asked to do it.

I work for a transplant facility. They will actually test you to see if your a match before you would actually be selected to donate.
