The Dangers of Social Media

Pretty sure I just watched this on FB. I teared up when one of the dad's yelled at the girl "we already lost your mother, what do you think would happen if I lost you too?" That was sad. These girls are ridiculous! The one girl, the mom even said "we've watched movies, read articles, and talked about this! Did it mean nothing?" Or something to that effect. That one at least knew better.

My question is this, how is it that these girls were able to talk to this guy for days without the parents "knowing"? (I know the parents knew what was going on, but not as far as the girls knew.)

when I was a kid my parents monitored my online activity. I didn't have "private" access to anything like Facebook (which wasn't even a thing till I was in college) or a cell phone. One of those girls was 12 and had unlimited access to Facebook, a cell, etc.

I don't have a teenage daughter so maybe I can't really judge, but I do have two little girls and I fully plan to know what my girls are doing online. It scares me that these girls were even in a position where they COULD talk to a guy without their parents knowing. It's really not all the girls' faults.

I'm sorry the last girl was sooo dumb that was a rapist van and everything....

@Zoe That's exactly what my DH and I said. Like the van just screamed "RAPE!!" Also, she even understood the guy wasn't the one in the pictures and ahe just trusted him when he said "oh yeah, so and so is in The back" as she got in the van.

Holy hell those kids are morons.

The defense tactic for the middle one is to cry, wtf. Crying cuz she got caught, facking stupid. All of them need a whooping , including the parents. Why the hell does a 12 year old need a fb , Jesus.

this seriously brings tears to my eyes, but then im mad at these little girls acting like theyre grown. my parents use to always tell me when i would want to go hang out with my 'boyfriends' late at night that nothing good happens at night when youre with a boy. and i totally stand by that. these little girls thought they knew what they were doing.

Why are parents okay with their 14yr olds dressing like that?

Ive already decided my kids arent getting phones until they are responsible enough.

I watched it on fb and it made me cry a little. It's so incredibly sad how easy it is to abducted nowadays and that doesn't just apply to little girls. It's terrifying and heartbreaking. We have to educate our children to ALWAYS be cautious no matter how old they are.

This is why my 14 year old daughter doesn't have fb or any social media..she does have a cell phone that I monitor thru an app that allows me to log on to her phone thru a computer and i literally see everything as if I had her phone in my hand..I DO NOT play around when it comes to her safety...

Side note: I sent this to my hubby at work and he called while I was typing this crying hysterically...poor thing.. It has me thinking...how well do we know our teens??

Omg I cried. That's so scary!!! I wouldn't even know what to do with myself if my daughter did that. There's so many sickos out there

Looking at my 9 month old daughter and I just want to cry. I don't want her to be a teenager!!

I have a teenage daughter.

You can teach and teach and teach. You can monitor everything. (I even have fake accounts for her FB and Instagram and my husband has a fake gamer tag he uses to monitor her Steam account and one for her Xbox account. Yet at some point she will have to make choices. No matter how involved we are she will be confronted with a decision that may change her life forever. I pray every day for her safety and anytime we part ways the last thing she hears is "Make good choices". I just hope it resonates with her and if ever confronted with this type of choice she does the right thing...

The second man saying he lost his wife and what would he do of he lost her

When I saw this all I could think of is that these girls are product of our society today. Everyone wants to grow up quickly, everything is overly sexualized and very easy to access. Their folks seem like hard working parents that unfortunately can't watch their kids 24/7 especially the dad that lost his wife and probably has to work all day to support his daughter. I don't believe these girls are dumb just young and guilty of bad judgment. Think about yourself when you were that age. No matter how strict, or loving or had good communication with your parents you still found ways to sneak out, hide something or still tried the thing they warned you against. Hopefully with spreading this video other little girls can see what could really happen to them and maybe be extra cautious of who they add and who they trust.

I didn't even have a cell phone until I was 14! And it was a flip phone. I Had to use the house phone or my mom's cell phone. I had a myspace and could use the computer, but it was in the family room and my mom could easily see what I was doing. Kids these days get away with too much and a lot of the time are spoiled.
