Rant: My dad wants to give LO water!
My dad keeps telling me to ask my sons doctor when i can give him water cause its getting hot. My son is 2 months! Uh no dad! I tell him he cant until after 1 year old (i think) but he still wants me to ask and give him some. Now i have to keep an eye on my dad to make sure he doesnt give him any. ??

Wow. I never knew about water intoxication. Thanks yall for that tidbit. I thought it could just possibly affect the way baby absorbs nutrients from formula. Which is bad. And I never gave my DD water until she was around 7 months. But I had absolutely no idea more than a few drops would be detrimental.

Old people. My grandmother insisted the same thing when my son was about one month

Where is yaya

Meh. I doubt he's going to give him any if he's just, asking you to ask. My dad thought I was suppose to and I explained it to him and we left it at that

You don't have to wait till a year. Babies can have water after they start solids.Just a few ounces at a time in a sippy cup and only after they've been fed, never replace formula or breast milk with water.

At 2 months why does it matter if it is hot out its not like the little is running around he shouldn't have anything besides milk
deleted-user·
Not until they are a year old

I don't get the obsession with water with some older folks. Breast milk and formula...they both contain water...only they actually have nutrients. So they provide nourishment while they hydrate.

Even when it's hot, baby gets what baby needs from breastmilk or formula.. No need for water. Look up water intoxication.

Babies can have water at 6 months old:) along with their food and still there nutritious milk but yes they can have plain water then

I've been told to introduce a little water when they have solids to make sure they don't have problems with constipation etc, but definitely not replacing milk
I started very small amounts at 6 months

I'll bump yaya's post for you.

Is it preffered to wait 6 months or 1 year??
deleted-user·
At least 6months old. Before then it can be deadly if given more than a sip or two.

Tell him it's fine. As long as he adds a little formula. (;
But seriously it's not that big of a deal. Yes baby is way to young, but if he sneaks him a sip it won't be the end of the world.
I'd be more concerned that he is overriding your wishes as the parent. No matter the issue.

I agree with pp. tell him the doctor said no and that she sent him some flyers to read up on.

I think at 6 months you can give a little but def not 2!!!
deleted-user·
Tell him you asked and the Dr said absolutely not! Lo gets everything he needs from bottle or breast right now.
