Dinner

Anyone else ever totally f*** up dinner? I made meatloaf tonight and that s*** was dryer than you know what ? I put so much effort into cooking it and I was so embarrassed I had to serve it. Make me feel better and comment your dinner fails! I know I’m not the only one.

I found a crockpot recipe online for chili that said to use a tbsp on cayenne pepper. Well some people commented that it wasn’t hot enough so add more. So I put in a total of 3 tbsp ? We were literally sweating trying to eat it. ? I took it to work and my Hispanic coworker ate it and told me it wasn’t even spicy. ???

Another time I was baking stuffed chicken and I kept checking the temperature with my digital meat thermometer and it just wasn’t rising appropriately. So after cooking the shat out of it, i realized that the setting was on Celsius and not Fahrenheit. ??‍♀️

Once when we were first married 11 years ago, I tried this chicken and worchestire sauce recipe. I didn’t measure I guess and it tasted awful we threw it away and went to dinner. Lol I’m now a pretty good cook ?‍?

Last night I almost caught my house on fire... cooking hamburger helper ??‍♀️. I drained the meat and some of the grease must have gotten on the bottom of the pan and I put it back on the burner to cook the noodles. And let me tell you it went up in flames. My 18 month old started crying and screaming. I panicked and sprayed it with water. Yes I know that’s exactly what you’re not supposed to do. But I couldn’t think of anything else and I needed to so something. The flames got bigger. Then thankfully went out. Needless to say we didn’t have hamburger helper and I now know what to do in a grease fire on a burner. Turn the heat off and put something such as an empty pan up side down on the burner to cut of oxygen to the fire.

I tried making chili con queso once while drunk and ended up putting in cinnamon instead of cumin on the ground beef. I was so upset but still tried to eat it- it was so gross ?

Yep. I’ve thrown out full pans because I couldn’t eat it. I would have to do the drive of shame to get pizza or something ??

In my meatloaf recipe, I use saltine crackers for breadcrumbs. It's one of my SOs favorite dinners and our son loves it too. One night I was making it to surprise him after he had been out of town working for a week. Well I didn't realize the saltines I grabbed were completely stale and used them.

That was like the only taste the meatloaf had was of stale crackers. Completely ruined the whole dish, my 2 year old spit it out and chunked it on the floor, SO did his best to pretend like it, and I just couldn't eat it....

.... at least the dog liked it ?‍♀️

The first time I made chili I used Cayenne instead of chili powder. I didn't realize they were different. It was 6 years ago and dh still gives me crap about it. I do make it pretty good these days though ?

Once I tried doing personal meatloafs in a cupcake tin and the grease dripped out and set the oven on fire.

I made meatloaf while ehh ? a little sloshed. SO will NOT let me live down that he found a whole craker in his meatloaf. I use bread crumbs from a can now.

I totally ruined fried chicken one time. I’ve done it a hundred times without issue but that night, even with three separate batches of oil, every SINGLE piece of chicken ended up with the breading falling off, burnt to a crisp and raw inside. I said eff it and we went and got wing stop ?

DH did recently. He undercooked a pork tenderloin and tried to serve it to our children. He got really offended when I told him it was raw... it was still very raw in the center. Told me the package said it would be pink due to the marinade ? pink and raw are 2 different things. He tried to prove me wrong, he put the kids pork in the microwave and said it’ll still be pink... guess what came out white and guess who had nothing to say after that. Pork is hard.

@OP do you bast your meatloaf every 15 minutes?

The recipe I have for meatloaf is a New Zealand meatloaf and with mine I'm required to bast it.

One time I made some rice krispies, and when I went to put the baking dish in the fridge to cool it down, I dropped it all over the floor. I cried. ?

My daughter's cake. I kept using 1/2 cup butter for the chocolate sauce which threw off the batter.

My daughter tried making instant oatmeal in the microwave once and caught it on fire, she didn't put any water in it, another time she tried making scrambled eggs and somehow spread the egg so thin in the skillet it was more like a crêpe but black lol that was the end of her cooking expedition for a while

Other day I f*** ed up before I even cooked.. "growing up mexican" we keep all of our pots and pans stored in the oven. I totally forgot about them and when it was preheated I opened the oven and the pot handles were beginning to melt in there!! Luckily my husband literally walked in the house from the gym and helped me get them lol.. oh man our house smelled so bad for like 2 days!

I found a recipe once for lemon pepper chicken in the crockpot. You were supposed to put 1-2 real lemons in there, and that was some sour ass chicken. It was horrible.

deleted-user

I baked salmon and tried a lemon pepper seasoning that I basically dumped on it. Ew that s*** was uneatable!

I was making a chocolate cake but had to triple the recipe as I was making a really big cake. After properly trippling it I should have put like 3tsp of baking soda into it, but my dumb butt ended up putting 3 tablespoons in.

It was the worst cake I have ever tasted in my entire life. And it was my son's b day cake so everyone ate it!

I put everything in a crockpot to be ready for after work.

Got home and realized I didn’t plug it in ?‍♀️

So apparently you can't buy fresh fish and leave it in the freezer for over three months...

I made some baked cod with a veggie and potato. My dh is gobbling it up because I guess I don't feed him... He eats about half and says it taste funny. I'm sitting there still trying to feed the kids so I try my food. All you could taste was a nasty metallicy taste. It was so gross. Tossed it and made up some chicken nuggets. Love my dh for just eating it and not commenting on my food.

It took me three time to finnaly make a good meatloaf. lol I finally got it right in the end tho. But my poor husband had to eat two terrible attempts.???

Made tomato chicken and orzo soup, was supposed to add 1 cup of orzo and accidentally added the whole box like an idiot. There was no soup just mush, yuck.

Dh requested banana mango pancakes one night... needless to say, we ordered pizza ?

Another time, his sister was visiting and I was making her breakfast before she had to leave to get to work. I was making biscuits and gravy and the gravy just would not thicken. No idea what was wrong, i had made it a hundred times just fine, but long story short, I was sobbing into the runny gravy and handed her so cash to pick up breakfast. ? I was pregnant tho. I blame the tears on hormones.

I like to try new recipes as I get bored of the same things. Well one time I made some kind of chicken stuff it took all day to prepare smelled sooo good. But omg it tastes like shat! I’m not sure what I did wrong it had a 5 star rating for the recipe so I’m guessing it must have been something I did. We ended up dumping it and grabbing pizza for dinner that night. Oh and my dd like frozen waffles cooked in the microwave not sure why or how she even thought of it. But she likes them soggy not crispy. So I told her to put it in for 10 seconds so she could do it herself. Well she put it in for 10 minutes the entire house smelled so bad for days the plate exploded in there as well it was bad I had to microwave water/vinegar mix multiple times just to get the stench out of the microwave. And even then weeks later whoever someone used the microwave you could smell it.

I started the microwave on fire once, I was making ramen noodles and forgot to add the water to the bowl. Filled the whole house with smoke, broke the microwave, and caught the noodles on fire.

I often try new recipes and they just turn out bland. I’ll add salt and pepper until they are edible ?

I can not cook on an electric stove! I burned hamburger helper, I hated that stove!!

I regularly undercook chicken because my meat thermometer is broken, and it looks done on he outside.

I can make minute rice, but not real rice, I always burn it, and it’s still hard. Not sure what I do wrong, I like rice though, so one of these days I will get an actual rice cooker!

I tried toasting my bread in the microwave once....I was 12.

Blew up my hard boiled egg in the microwave as well.... also around middle school aged. I hate microwaves now.

Recently, on our date night years backs, I cooked DH a steak and used the steak juices to make gravy sauce for the mashed potatoes..... uughghhhhh bad idea. It was grease flavored grease on mashed potatoes. He was kind enough to say it was okay and still ate it ALL UP while we laughed.

I still bring it up when ever I make gravy around Thanksgiving.

If you’re up for a suggestion, I always use oatmeal instead of bread crumbs in my meatloaf because it helps keep it juicy. ??

I made pizza boats with squash and I HATED it ? I’m not a big squash person but I like zucchini. Dh got the squash instead because he couldn’t find the zucchini and said they were basically the same thing.

Should've just thrown some gravy on it. Lol. I was a caregiver for disabled kids/adults and was often in charge of meals. I hate fish, but it was on the menu. I threw some butter and lemon pepper on some mystery fish and baked it. It was shriveled up and nearly crunchy. I asked the ladies how they liked it and one replied "that chicken was good!" so, that's a good description of my cooking skills. Lol.

The first time I made dinner for my DH (boyfriend at the time and we hadn't been dating long), I winged an orange chicken dish. Well it tasted like straight up orange concentrate. I overestimated the amount of oj to put in to get a slight orangey flavor ?‍♀️?‍♀️

He still ate it and pretended like it was good until I finally said "I'm so sorry. This tastes like shat". He replied "it's not THAT bad, just a little bit strong on the orange ". I told him he didn't have to finish and we could find something else to eat, but he ate it anyway. It was like taking a bite out of a frozen oj concentrate ???

I cooked beef stroganoff years and years ago for my mum and my ex, blind rotten drunk! Because i was wasted i couldn't taste anything properly, put nearly a whole container of salt in it so i could taste it and practically cut the very tip of my thumb of into the food and bled all through it. Needless to say, nobody ate it! ?

Cooking and baking is my passion and I grew up cooking on a gas range and gas oven. Well moved into an apartment with dh 2 yrs ago and it came with an electric range and oven with those stupid coils and I still burn everything, for the life of me I can't find the right heat setting on these stupid things it's either not hot enough to cook anything or too hot that everything gets charred. This has been a huge blow to my ego, I've always prided myself in my ability to cook and I loved challenging myself with new recipes and now that I have this piece of junk I hardly cook anymore and everyone is sad and misses my good foods but I can't even try to make something without it getting ruined. I think the problem is that the stove is older than me and my lame landlord won't replace it cause I can cook just fine on my mom's electric stove. Were moving within the next 2 months and I told dh wherever we go it has to be a gas range, my life is incomplete without cooking and I can't deal with another jacked up electric range, I need my fire!

I don’t have a dinner fail... I have a breakfast fail.

When I was in college I was making breakfast for me, my roommates, and my now dh. It was the morning after a night of heavy drinking (small possibility I was still intoxicated). I was making scrambled eggs and accidentally grabbed the oj from the fridge instead of the milk and poured it in the eggs. They were the last eggs we had so I kept cooking them. I warned everyone before they were served. They tasted like VOMIT. Seriously. One of the worst things I’ve ever tasted.

Yesterday I went out with my boyfriend went to watch a movie, me and him don't live together yet. but point is yesterday when he was dropping me off his like sleep over at my house witch the mom and dad lives. I said no, his response was why is everyone deciding or making choices for you and their going to do the same with the baby, when I know that's not true. what he thinks is that my mom tells me not to sleep over. So he left all mad. and I felt in my heart that he went on and cheated on me and did something else with an other girl.... and it's 10:51 am now and he hasn't texted me at all. and after he dropped me off I texted him saying what I felt and nothing. I don't know if I'm over reacting or what or what should i do. do i wait until he text me?

need suggestions.... So at work we have a drink thief. Any time we put a drink in the fridge it disappears. I swear I know who it is. So far he's taken drinks from everyone that works in the office, we even put a sign to not take anything you didn't pay for and wrote our names on the drinks. The person I think is taking them works out of the office so we never get to see who is drinking them.
