Pregnant security officer

Pregnant security officer

Okay this is a long shot considering how specific it is, but I am super stressed because I am 9 weeks pregnant right now and I work as a security officer. Where I work varies every week and can range from high rises to outdoor sites. I have to deal with the sometimes mentally ill homeless population and work in more dangerous areas. Anyways, does anyone have any experience with this kind of situation? Am I allowed to say I can't work in dangerous areas anymore? I am open to hearing from police officers as well. It's the closest and more common job I can think of. I am also hoping to hear some advice about uniforms or anything relating to this topic.

It doesn't hurt to ask your supervisor, but honestly I don't think it will change your situation. I have a friend who did manual labor for work lifting 30+ pounds. She tried to get a doctor's note to say she can't lift that much. Well they pretty much said that was her job title, that if she can't do the job anymore, she would have to quit. It was stated right on her employment papers that they have a right to terminate if you are unable to perform the physical demanding job.

But maybe your supervisor can find you an area less dangerous?

Thanks for the replies ? I'm not going to quit and I don't think they would want me to. Just wanted to hear some personal experiences. I'm a flex so I don't have a set site which is nice because my job requirements aren't specific. I'll be talking to my manager soon.

Do they have any type of light duty work? Like what do they do with employees who are injured on the job? If they have other positions available like that you can request it. You will probably just need a doctors note confirming pregnancy.

I worked as a security officer in a mall when I was pregnant. We would get a lot of crazy people, under the influence, aggressive everything so I can relate. For me they still sent me out to calls that dealt with aggressive people but my coworkers would always come with me for backup. I had an a****** supervisor so he didn't care. Luckily my coworkers did.

I have worked in a maximum security psychiatric prison through both of my pregnancies. Never really had any issues. A few inmates threatened me but I never hot into any situations. I couldn't request light duty because if you can't perform your job duties you have to go out. But when I was an officer they tried putting me in the bubble whenever possible.
