I ripped my acrylic nail off and it actually got stuffed into my cuticle. I had to pull my acrylic nail out of my nail bed and my actual fingernail was a goner. The initial hurt like crazy and pulling it out of my finger was intense. After that though, it just felt like the tip of my finger just where my nail should’ve been. I didn’t cover it at all and it grew back super fast. I’m shocked I didn’t have any long term damage

If you keep it covered and don't let it breathe sometimes it may take longer to heal

I lost my big toenail a few years ago when something fell on it. Didn't even know it was messed up bc of dark toenail polish. It didn't hurt coming off or growing back

Dd lost her pinky toe nail last week I didn't realize it was loose until she was freaking out because it was hanging on sideways and I wrapped a bandaid around it and it fell off the next day.

Last year I was running through the hallway and I stubbed my toe on the corner of the door causing me to break my toe and split my toe should have gotten stitches but didn't that hurt like a batch forever but my toe nail falling off didn't hurt and now it randomly falls off and it doesn't hurt.

My SO just recently lost his nail. He smashed his thumb into the concrete & his nail died. It started lifting up after about a week of being purple. His mom slowly clipped parts of it off for him before he cut the whole thing off. Him being him, he never covered it but it’s starting to grow back now. He said it only hurt at the top because it was constantly getting wet & ended up cracking so I think it’s best to keep it covered.

@aleya were the antibiotics to make sure you didn't get an infection?

I did. I slammed it in a car door. I was around 10. The nail didn't hurt at all when it fell off. It fell off while I was swimming. It took a few months for the nail to grow back. I don't remember ever having mine wrapped at all but I was put on antibiotics

Ohhhh boy, I just went through this with my 1 1/2 year old. It was scary as s*** . She lost it a couple weeks after it got smashed. It looked so gross and pitiful, but it is over half back in probably a month. It has regrow super fast and looks completely normal. No need for bandaids or anything for her: no discomfort. I did put a bandaid on while it was trying to fall off so that it wouldn’t be crudely ripped off.

I lost my pinky nail as a kid my friends brother hit me with a bat. It turned black and eventually fell off no pain at all. Besides the actual hit. Lol

I did as a kid, I don’t remember exactly how old i was, but I only remember there being pain when my finger got smashed and for a little while after. When the nail fell off there was the weird sensation of my nail not being there anymore but there wasn’t any pain. Now you can’t even tell which nail it was that fell off.

One time I broke a acrylic nail and it cracked more than half of my real nail off along with it , it was super sore for a few days . I was terrified to clean it with alcohol , so I constantly washed it off with only water , and let it air dry for about a day or two before I put a bandage on it . After about 3-4 days of just water and bandaid , I started using half water half peroxide with a q-tip . Growing back didnt hurt at all , can’t remember how long it took for it to grow back tho . I want to say a month and a half ?

I slammed my finger in a locker in 7th grade, that really hurt!! And while it was swollen it hurt bad!! But once the pressure was gone it felt much better! Then the nail gradually broke off, that didn’t hurt at all, neither did it regrowing, it has a funny shape now though. When it was all swollen everyone I knew suggested drilling a hole in the nail, it was suppose to drain the blood and instantly release the pressure, but I was too chicken to do that.

I lost a nail as a kid. Hiding the fact that I had an infection was painful, but not the actual losing of the nail or it growing back. It just took a long time

I ripped an acrylic nail & my real nail along with it by opening my dryer somehow when I was 18. The action hurt like hell but the growing in process did not at all. I put a lil bit of white iodine on it (not sure why, my mom told me to) & let it air out for awhile before bandaging it.

My dd had a toenail come off bc in a tantrum she picked up & slammed something down & it hit directly on her big toenail. Aside from her crying from the initial hit it never bothered her again after it came off & grew back.

Both my boys have smashed their fingers and lost the nail. Neither of them complained of pain, the only problem we did have was they thought it was cool so they keep taking the band aid off to look at it lol. We found that if you put a band aid then wrap it in medical tap it’s harder for them to take off.

I did as a kid. I don't remember pain other than the incident itself. I remember having to keep it bandaged and dry. It grew back. I don't even remember which finger it was!
