Birth Certificates and Job Interviews

Any job I’ve had needed my social security card for tax purposes, and I don’t think a copy of a copy of your birth certificate will work. Can you contact the health department in the county you were born in and pay for a new certified copy?

It's 50$ to get it sent to me, more if I want to get it sooner. I'll probably call them and ask and reschedule if needed. I had both but they just disappeared.

Either of your parents so long as they had custody of you should be able to get your birth certificate:) my grandpa got mine for me a year or so ago. I'd bring your copy and show them, then explain the situation and they may be able to temporarily accept that so long as you've got a picture i.d but it depends on the company.

I lost my bc when I left my ex, I had to leave all my stuff. And of course my mom lost all our important documents. Hoping they accept it since they seem to really need people.

I've never had a job ask for my birth certificate. I didn't even have to present it when I applied for my teaching license with the state. Are they asking you to bring it in? I just think that's so weird

In Minnesota, as far as I know, you can use your Birth certificate with any secondary form (ss card or id). Birth Certificates are considered primary identifications.

Which makes getting an id or drivers licence incredibly hard.

You can go to your local social security office and apply for a lost card. I believe it's free for the first time. Then you can contact the health dept of vital records in the state you were born in and they will send you a certified copy. You can pay extra to get it within 3-5 days. Most of that stuff is all online nowadays too. I was born in Missouri but grew up in IL. I lost my BC once and it was easy to get a certified copy of it.

@mama, just my luck they updated their online system and I have to find a way to submit identification

Update: they're still going to interview me, and hopefully their boss accepts it. If all else fails I will be interviewed again.

It’s a process but it’s actually pretty easy to get a certified copy of your birth certificate & a new SS card.

I'll have my birth certificate by Monday, and my social card whenever. Spent 60$ and they charged me the over night fee for 3-5 days ?

I know my husband's work wouldn't let him use a copy because they needed the seal.

But I ordered both online and it was really easy. Also came super quick.
