Hospitals screw up. My son's birth certificate had the wrong nave for his father! My (ex) took my name when we were married. The medical records clerk insisted he put his birth name on our son's paperwork. I had already researched this and knew he had to put his current, legal name. Then they questioned us if we were related (very uncommon name) and treated us like crap. The next day, I filed a complaint and was informed that yes, the current, legal name for the father is used. Otherwise, he'd have to carry his own birth certificate and our marriage license to prove paternity. The hospital turned in the wrong paperwork! So when the birth certificate came, and I saw the wrong name in it, I went to the hospital and made them pay for the new copy and correct it in their system as well as vital records. I was PISSED. But they fixed it and I was very firm when our daughter was born about the paperwork, because they called me before filing her birth certificate, again asking if we were related before marriage...

In my county, the county sends a sheet with all the info to double check and I sign off on it, before the birth certificate is finalized and ordered. If your county doesn't do that, I would call or go over there.

@zombie my whole experience after birth was just horrible there. They only treated me well after they found out my grandma in law worked that floor.

I'll be calling Monday to check paperwork. Have the hospital change it too.
