I had a c section with my first, and they did the weighing and measuring while I was being stitched up. My husband got to hold her until they were finished with me, then I held her while in recovery. I asked the nurse if it was okay to nurse her then or to wait, I had no clue lol she latched pretty soon after.

I breastfed my son until he was 3. He never wing himself :) they kept saying he would he never did. Anyways, I breastfed immediately after birth. They also had me pump an hour after having him. It helps your milk come in.

I nursed #1 and #3 immediately after birth and #2 as soon as she wasnt blue since her cord was wrapped so mamy times. Feed on demand and pay attention to early feeding cues to avoid a grumpy baby

I was able to bf her right away during skin to skin, natural no complications delivery. I never watched the clock, just nursed on demand for as long as she wanted. In the beginning it felt like 24/7 but that phase passes quickly and it also builds your milk supply and you regulate to baby’s needs. As long as they have enough wet diapers you’re making enough for them. Good luck I hope it works for you this time

My son was full term but he had to spend 1 night in the nicu, and even that short period of,time was really difficult to feel attached and create a good breastfeeding bond.. it took a few weeks to get it down.

My girl on the other hand had an uncomplicated quick delivery and was able to latch about 30 min after delivery.. she was very hungry! We really didn't have any kind of schedule except when she pooped we'd change her, bf then back to sleep. Or if she slept too long between feedings I'd wake her up to nurse. Other than that she kinda let me know when she was hungry, and a lot of times I just let her comfort nurse (we coslept).

With all my babies they were put on my chest right away and then after a bit they would start looking for the breast. That part was always really cool to me. I would encourage you to ask for them to allow you some time together before they take the baby for weighing ect. It's so worth it. I had nurses and my midwife there to help me each time get the first latch. Every baby is very different and it really does take a minute to figure that part out and get comfortable with them and then with you. For the first few days I don't worry about a rhythm I just try to focus on good full feedings where both breasts are stimulated and used for a few minutes each. After the first few days all my babies just fell into a nice schedule/rhythm on their own. The hardest part was just keeping them awake for a good feeding, newbies just want to sleep and sleep. ?. I did try to feed every 2-3 hours during the day initially with all my babies because I wanted to be sure they were getting enough and that I was establishing a good supply. I love love love breastfeeding. It's such a sweet time for you and baby. ❤️

Nursed 5 successfully for over a year each. My experience- During skin to skin directly after birth baby will usually start rooting to nurse by the first thirty min. Some take the full hour to become interested. I allow newborns to feed on demand and as they get older very slowly implement my own schedule as each baby would allow. They are all different so different for each. I have 3 Nicu babies and I have to say I loved the 4 hours schedule they got them on. Made my life easier when they were discharged. Totally not against it as it established a healthy pattern for sleep in my lo

Thanks ladies! That helps a lot. I’m sure it will all come naturally I just want to kind of know what to expect. In the NICU I had all these rules with my own kids, it sucked.

And with my youngest, it was an emergency c-section and they put me completely under. So I didn’t see anything and didn’t see him until two days later. Nurses came in to literally help me express my milk by hand so we could start my production. I’m hoping this baby girl stays in longer than all her brothers!

My sons have nurses shortly after birth. About 1-2 hours later. With skin to skin they’ve both wobbled their little heads to my breast lol.

We were on a schedule. I fed every 2 hours unless they seemed hungry in between those times. Sometimes it’s comfort nursing where they just like taking a swig or two and fall asleep.

My experience is a lot like @mystery's. Feeding on demand for the first couple of months builds a nice supply.

Right after birth my son was placed on my chest, we snuggled and I was so exhausted (due to my birth being so long) so I was kind of in a sleep deprived daze (basically had not slept in 2 days) so I wasn't sure to latch him on myself or wait. I noticed him rooting for the breast very soon after calming down... but I was unsure (a mistake I won't make this time around) the midwife came around and encouraged feeding him, helping him to latch etc. After that we headed home and it was up to me (within 3 hours of birth I was home) they are very sleepy the first 24 hours and won't nurse very much (or at least my son didn't and the midwives told me that he would sleep basically the whole time and to take advantage and rest) so I had to wake him and encourage him to nurse the first couple times. After that he was a regular newborn baby fussing and crying to eat whenever he needed!

No "schedule" in the sense of being anything like in the NICU (from what I've heard... Had a few moms tell me their NICU stories) you just nurse on demand. Whenever the baby is rooting for the breast, just going with babies flow...some babies go on a "schedule" others...like my son...do not. He snacked like every half an hour - hour. Sometimes more, sometimes less...eventually started spacing it out, then would again start cluster feeding.

My son nursed right after birth. I will say it is all a blur so I can't remember if they weighed him first or not. He kinda put himself on a schedule and ate every 2-3 hpurs.

With our daughter, she breastfed soon after birth. She was placed immediately on me and stayed there until after she nursed the first time. They didn't weigh her or anything until then. I would definitely ask for them to do that. :) Usually she nursed every two hours including at night. She did have issues nursing though early on, but eventually we figured it out. :) She nursed every two hours during the day for the first few months honestly. Although once back to birth weight we didn't wake her at night anymore, so she would go longer stretches at night. During the day though it was still every two hours usually. I nursed on demand though, so I didn't force a schedule on her for feedings. :)
