Microwaves

Do you own one? Why or why not? When hubby and I moved into our apartment we refrained from buying one for a couple months then finally broke and bought one. Well now we have roaches in the microwave..... So I'm throwing it out. I know I don't need a microwave but it's convenient. So I was curious. How many people go without having one?

@livefast. They do, they send out a notice a day or two before the treatment advising the tenants on how to prepare the unit for the treatment. And anyone who isn't ready getsa warning after the first time and up to a 50$ fine for not being prepared for the second treatment. And many people here refuse to prepare their units...

It’s absolutely possible to live without a microwave. We haven’t had one in our house for 3 years now. I don’t find it inconvenient to warm up my food using the stove or oven. It taste way better in my opinion. It might take a little longer but you get used to it. Heating water for instance for tea can take under 5 mins. I bought a tea pot for it. We will not own a microwave again.
I have no advice for the roaches except to maybe look in to moving. Like pp said you should be able to break your lease.

I use mine every day. But if it was infested with roaches, it would have to go.

And unfortunately for our lease. As long as the management company is having my unit treated we can't break lease for this issue..

Management can easily send out a letter in advance telling every that they must be prepared for treatment on a specific time and day. They can evict those who do not comply with the letter.

I've lived in apartments the entire time my husband and I have been together, and have gotten letters like that before. That way, yes, every apartment can get treated all at once. Mine does it once a year just as a preventative measure.

I almost never use mine, definitely not a necessity. I just use the oven/stove if I need to heat something up.

@awesome1377 yes, they spray and they also bait. They lay out this peanut butter or carmal looking goo next to all of my hinges and special corners in my kitchen and bathroom. But they also have to spraying something because after they treat my apartment, I'm not allowed to enter for 2-5 hours since I have a toddler and am pregnant.

I just noticed you said "spray". That's is not what they are supposed to use for roaches. It's a bait system. Are you sure they have treated correctly?

Even if you see one or two of the German roaches (the little ones), that means you have a bad problem. You need to contact management to treat! Those little things are so hard to get rid of so I've heard

Management should require ALL units to be treated regardless of tenants desire and very bad housekeeping is grounds for eviction due to this very purpose.

That's grounds for breaking your lease. I would be looking into that if I were you. Document everything and take pics. I'd be looking for a new place to live.

Yes, pest control has done about 5 or six sprays and treatments in our unit specifically. And surrounding units. But I feel as though they need to do ALL the units at once. Other wise he bugs just go from one unsprayed unit to the next

Well that's really unfortunate. It's totally possible to live without a microwave. I just like it because it reheats things faster than the oven or the stove. If it's just an extra place for the roaches to hide, I'd probably get rid of it, especially if you don't use it often.

The roaches will get into all of your electronics.

No we bought the microwave brand new!! That's why it's so frustrating. I think when the neighbor(before the current ones) moved out. All her bugs went right into our apartment. And the surrounding units. Right around that time is when I saw the first bug in the display screen.

You can live without it but it's a huge inconvenience. Did your landlord have a professional pest company come out? Pest control is usually included and stated in your lease.

ETA: just saw your update...that's horrible. I can't imagine how nerve racking that is. I have an intense fear of roaches so I just couldn't.

It's completely disgusting but unfortunately when you live in a complex the problem will consist unless EVERYONE follows the pest control schedule. I can only control how clean I keep my own apartment. I can't control my neighbors(who aren't very clean). So in other words, unless all of the apartments get cleaned and sprayed at the same time, the roaches won't go away.

I've never lived without a microwave, they're so convenient for so many things.

Did you buy a used microwave? ?

I couldn't live without a microwave, it's essential in my household. A cheapie small microwave is under 50 bucks....

Eta: just read your comment and saw you live in an apartment. You need to contact management. The roach infestation is on them to pay for to get rid of it. You need a professional. Roaches can be hard to get rid of, and if your walls are adjacent to other units they could be coming from your neighbors. I'd be in that office everyday until this is taken care of. That's completely unacceptable.

You can live without a microwave, but that sounds like the least of your problems. Have you explored options on getting rid of the roaches?

Just read your edit.
Heat up your food on the stove or in the oven. It may take longer but there's ways around it. In my last apartment, we didn't buy one because we were in the process of getting a house built and it comes with a built in microwave.

Ok lol little back story... We found out we had roaches a week after moving in. And slowly after some treatments and excessive cleaning and organizing in my house they were beginning to go away. Like I would see maybe one a week. Until we got the microwave... Since getting the microwave, I have cleaned it every other day or more. And I mean deep cleaning it. But just recently I noticed a roach behind the display screen? then another sightings. Well this morning, I decided to try the microwave to warm up some water for my tea. And when I opened the door to take my water out, like 10 of the little F'ERS ran out of my microwave. (Our roaches had been slowly coming back since this purchase) so I think they found sanctuary in my rarely used microwave. So I'm throwing it out. But just wanted to see how other people go about not owning a microwave. Is it really inconvenient? Please tell me I can live without one. We were so close to having the bugs at Bay until this.

If there's an infestation you can get roaches in your microwave...the little ones which are the worse bc that lets you know you have a roach problem (if them being in your microwave didn't already give it away lol). I hate roaches. Makes my skin crawl.

But yes I have a microwave for convenience...heating stuff up via the stove or oven when I'm in a rush is too much.

How the heck do you get roaches in your microwave that's disgusting ?
22.09.2017 Нравится Ответить
If you had roaches in your microwave that means they’re also in other places ? you need to have the bug man come and find them
22.09.2017 Нравится Ответить
How on earth did you end up with roaches in your microwave? That's gross. I've never had that issue, and we've had a microwave as long as I can remember. Do you not clean it? I like having one to reheat frozen leftovers.
