why?!

My son has been potty training for the past like 4 months and he was doing really good and all the sudden now he's not waking up dry in the morning now he's starting to pee in his overnight pull up when he wakes up as opposed to going straight to the bathroom. If I wake him up in the morning and put him down he won't pee but lately he's been waking up and waiting to wake me up until after he's peed what the fack am I supposed to do. I'm seriously about to just give up. He he's also had,non stop accidents and is now starting to refuse to even go on the potty to the point where I'm having 3 4 6 accidents a day with him. He was doing so good and all the sudden within a week he's just completely stopped going on the toilet completely and is stopped waking up dry. Someone help me before I lose my s***

Ok, totally normal then. Just be positive and encouraging with him, talk to the daycare and make sure they're doing the same. He'll get through this, mama. Don't put him back in diapers, switching rooms doesn't seem like a big deal to us, but I'm sure it is for him so this regression is pretty normal. You're not a bad parent AT ALL!!! This happens a lot! It's actually happening with many kids in my son's preschool class. He'll get back to where he was, just keep working with him. ❤

Like I feel like a bad parent because I don't want to put him back in diapers cuz I feel like that's not fair to him we've come so far but I'm just such a loss right now that I don't know if I'm hurting my child more than doing any good trying to keep potty training him or what

@ Brittany. Yes he was moved from his two-year-old room to his three-year-old room at his daycare this week. When she was in the two-year-old room he was going full weeks without not one accident at school and at home he was doing so so good but then on both Thursday and Friday of last week the daycare gave him back to me in diapers and I was completely infuriated with them and I feel like because they had him in the diapers for those couple days it pretty much ruined everything that I had worked for. The daycares excuse was that they did know that I had brought extra underwear and changes of clothes for him even though I told them morning teacher both days that I had brought more stuff for him and she chose not to communicate that to the afternoon teacher that comes in

My daughter potty trained at 2. And about a month after being daytime potty trained, she had 2 days where she basically regressed. She started peeing herself randomly. I never got frustrated and took it as maybe she just needs a reminder. So for a day or two after I would take her potty first thing in the am, then every hour to 2 hours for the rest of the day. I was consistent with her going again like I had been when I first trained her. She caught back on and now at 3 1/2 hasn't had a accident in over a year. I have no advice on nighttime because she's not night time trained yet. We are waiting a bit longer. And no advice on poop, my daughter always made sure she pooped in the potty.

Has there been any changes in his life this week? That could also cause potty issues.

@hides when I started potty training my son he was waking up dry and he was doing really good for the four months he was barely having any accidents he was pretty much potty trained like I said it's just been in the past week he is started to refuse to use the potty and has been having accidents in his pants. We started the potty training four months ago and I was expecting him to have accidents I know that's what happens when you potty train. I feel like because he was doing so good for the four months that just going back and giving him back his diapers is just going to make him regress anymore and I don't particularly think that that's a great idea

The fact it has taken 4 months and he hasn't got it yet means he probably wasn't ready to start training. This means he will regress and even down right refuse to exert control over the situation. I would give it a rest for a little bit. Then start again when it's not such an emotional issue.
I wouldn't worry about nights initially it can take a lot longer and as he isn't dry upon waking he's probably not ready physically yet anyway. When I trained my son we went without nappies all day including naps but used pull ups at night. It doesn't hurt to slow down and take stock of a situation that's not working properly. Good luck!

If you think it would entice him to try more often I would. I think that would work for one of mine, but I'm sure the other would just sit on the potty for fun and not really try when he has to go. You know your boy best, so that call is up to you. I'd try taking him every hour or two and see what works for him, bribery, cheerios, a timer etc. Just got to find what works for him. When he poops is he one that goes somewhere to hide or does he get small manipulative toys to concentrate on? Try to watch for his cues and see how you can incorporate them with the potty. That was hard for one of my boys but once we did the potty box thing it's been super easy, he's had maybe 1 poop accident.

@Nancy. Would a better schedule help in the, morning? Because ive also noticed hes waking up later than usual. He's always been on his own schedule for sleep. And hes always been super consistent. But not lately...

@Brittany. I've gor, him,to,poop,on the potty only once. Since then all his poops have been accidents lol we were rewarding for peeing in the potty but now he just wants to sit for a couple seconds and he tells me he's done. Do I still give him something if he doesn't actually go??

The waking up wet thing wouldn't bother me at all, those muscles don't develop until sometime around 4. Some kids will stop before that, others will take longer. Boys for some reason have been known to be a little older before they stop wetting the bed, NBD, just keep a pull up on him for the times he's sleeping. Do you limit fluids about an hour or so before bed? That will help as well. Sometimes kids regress and will start having accidents during potty training, try not to show frustration and I definitely would not give in and give back diapers. Try rewarding him for going. My older boy was stubborn about potty training, I got cheerios and let him throw some in the potty and told him to aim or would yell "fire in the hole" all silly, so that worked for peeing. For pooping I made him a "potty box" it's a box that stays in the bathroom and he can only use it while pooping, it's got playdough, spaghetti, and cheerios. I flatten the playdough, stick the spaghetti in it upright, and let him drop the cheerios down the spaghetti to stack them. He sits backwards when he's playing so he can use the back of the toilet as a table. My other son was easy, I just bribed him with candy and he never went back. Lol Good luck!

Okay well before I keep getting lectured about having my son wake me up we live in a very extremely small one-bedroom apartment where his door is open and I sleep right next to that door in our living room. When he even moves my baby monitor goes off and I'm awake if I don't hear him myself. Hes always just got out if bed and come out of his room to me. By the time he even gets to the door I already know hes awake. He also literally only has a bed and toys in his room and nothing else in order for him to get into anything he has to leave his room which like I said I sleep right outside of his door

Not to mention there's a whole lot a 3 yr old can get into when not supervised.

I still have a monitor in my 3 yr olds room, so I hear him wake and I'm up right away- I take him right into the bathroom.

I never used pull-ups, get a mattress protector just in case (good to have regardless) and go without.

Expecting a 3 yr old to be responsible for waking you is asking a lot. Can and will some? Yes, but that's not the norm and shouldn't be expected- especially when potty training.

Okay well that's not how things work in my house so am I supposed to be waking up at 5:30 a.m. and just waiting for him to wake up anywhere between 6:15 and 8. Or what. I mean I'm normally awake a good 30 to 40 minutes before he wakes up but he's been waking up in between the times that I check on him and peeing. I'm usually awake in the morning I just go and lay back down to my bed and wait for him to wake up and before he was waking up dry and I was able to get them on the potty before he'd pee but now it's like he's peeing in his sleep or something
