No Blood Work??
Just did my very first appointment for this pregnancy they did a vaginal ultrasound which looked good the doctor said everything seem to be growing as it should but they didn't do any blood work is that a usual thing for them to wait to do blood work

Make sense i mean im only 6 wks along so i wasnt expecting much this appointment in general. I thought maybe blood work and some questions. But i ended up have an ultrasound lol so i guess i cant be too picky. Lol dr said she thpught every thing looked as she would expect it to this early on and i can relax until the 27th

Had my first ultrasound at 12 weeks and had a physical & lab (blood work) done 2 weeks afterwards on my next appt. that was when I met a certified midwife and she informed me and asked lots of questions.

I've always had blood work be the first thing they do. They checked iron, immunities to certain diseases, HIV status, blood type, and a few other things.

In Canada you have your first appointment as soon as you find out your pregnant. They draw your blood a few times to make sure your levels are rising. You get a first ultrasound bewteen 7-8 weeks for dating. Then 12 weeks ultrasound to check for abnormalities.

Thank you all for so many responses! I havent had much time to bb lately. But i wasnt worried about anything in particular, i jusy remember they took blood with my son. But maybe that was because he was my first. Mainly curious

It's normal.. Maybe next appointment she will ask too.. Like ladies say if everything is normal no need to worry.

I did blood work very early but only because they know I have low progesterone levels. Usually they do it later on in pregnancy unless you suspect something is going on. If you're worried, just request it.

Where I am your first appointment is between 8-10 weeks and you get blood work, with a us at 12 weeks as long as there are no complications etc

Blood work was the only thing they did at my first appointment. I didn't get an ultrasound until the second appointment

For me, a blood test was done prior to an us because the clinic wouldn't take you until levels are minimum 2000.

Some doc's do it first. Others wait. There's no real need to do it right away if there's no other issues.

I had my first blood draw on Tuesday at 13 weeks

They have no reason to do blood work at this point. Totally normal
deleted-user·
Yup. I didn't have blood drawn till almost 20 wks. Is there something you're concerned about?
deleted-user·
I would think it depends on the dr or clinic policy. I've always had blood drawn after the intake appointment which is 8-10 weeks.

It's quite normal. As long as everything looked good then there's really no need for drawing your blood. That will happen a little later on in your pregnancy. ?
