Horrified - somewhat graphic

The first time I worked a fatal accident and saw the body I cried like a baby. Now it doesn't bother me. Unfortunately you get used to it when you deal with it often enough at work. I own a towing an recovery business, we get fatal accidents alot.

Pp I'm a claims adjuster. So it is possible at some point we could have a homeowners claim that would involve such a clean up. However the likelihood is small. And if such a claim was assigned to me (unlikely as I handle mostly auto and only a small number of homeowners) I'd ask for it to be reassigned. I had a claim for a funeral home reassigned once because I'm not comfortable handling it. My boss was fine with that. So I will almost certainly never have to deal with this issue. But I need CE credits every year to keep my license. I didn't realize what the topic was before going or I wouldn't have gone. I can certainly find CE's with topics I'm more comfortable with.

My mom and I talked seriously about going into the business of cleaning up after dead bodies were taken away. Those people make a killing!!! But I couldn't do it.. I seriously considered it but I just didn't feel like I would be able to.

The book is called Stiff: the secret life of human cadavers by Mary Roach, for my fellow weirdos.

I read a book all about what happens to bodies when they are donated to science. It was so interesting. I can't remember the name of it, damn that is going to bother me all night, but if they made you read it you may have been better prepared for what you were going to see.

My former coworker is a cop. The things he sees...he told me once they went to a house where an old man died. He lived alone and had nobody. Apparently his body was so decomposed, my coworker chucked up everything in his stomach, and he's desensitized as well.

It's crazy what our bodies go through without formaldehyde, which just slows the process anyway. We do bloat, and leak, and then decompose.

I watched a documentary about people donating their bodies to "body farms." It's for forensics/detectives to observe the state of corpses in different phases. It's really interesting.

Shannon, that's not horrible. My sister said a lot of nurses (she's one) and social workers, CSI's become desensitized. It's your bodies way of dealing with trauma. Unfortunately some people like OP don't adjust well- instead their bodies just shut down. Yikes

I once had a client tell me, in detail, what it's like to find a woman who'd been dead in her house for three weeks. In the summer. No thank you!

My job entails this almost daily. I am in litigation (law) and deal in environmental. Basically, anything bodily fluid related. I have seen it all. Animals, adult humans, children. Horrific. I'm desensitized to it, which sounds horrible. But it is what it is. Most people feel the same as you. They may not know it until they are faced with it, but you are the norm. I hate that you had to experience that. Decomposition, especially, is not for the faint if heart. It may be a while before it is out if your mind. How traumatic for you. Smh.

I could totally do that job...forensic science interest me.

I could watch an autopsy... but I couldn't watch a surgery...removing limbs on someone alive

Have you seen the movie, the cleaner? It's about a man ego does that for a living and then gets framed for murder. It's awesome. One of those jobs you don't realize is needed until it's too late.

I actually see those things in person. Gotta love my job...
